With the song already added to rotation on triple j, the video for ‘Queensland’ is also causing quite a stir around the country. On the Road to Somewhere – Alinta Chidzey in West Side Story [Feature Article]

By: Pepa Wolfe

On the Road to Somewhere

Actress Alinta Chidzey is wowing audiences as she burns up the floor in West Side Story, bringing sass and charm to the role of Anita. Life Music Media caught up with her for the Brisbane leg of the Australian Tour.

For someone who has just taken a quick break from an intense tech week to talk to the media, Alinta Chidzey appears very relaxed.

It’s a sunny day at Southbank in Brisbane, where the cast and crew of the classic musical West Side Story are busily preparing to launch the next leg of their Australian tour. Chidzey sits sipping an orange juice and speaks enthusiastically about the role of Anita – the fiery Puerto Rican immigrant unwillingly caught up in a 50s gang war – for which she is receiving rave reviews.

Who What Where with Josh Berry of LACEY

“When you listen to ‘ROPES’, the debut EP from Perth natives LACEY, one of the first things you’ll notice is the band’s incredible penchant for writing sobering, incisive lyrics, phrased perfectly in the sweetest pop melodies. Their rhythms are tight and infections and their tones, soothing. The end result is a sound that unintentionally seductive, but defiantly addictive…” LACEY

READ PART 1 OF THIS INTERVIEW HERE.    –    READ PART 2 OF THIS INTERVIEW HERE.

Winston McCallLMM – I also wanted to talk about the different producers on your last two albums and their contribution to the finished sound on both releases. What was the best thing about working with Adam Dutkiewicz on Horizons?

WM – With Adam?

LMM – Yeah. He’s had his fair share of musical experience. How did it first come about that he worked on the album with you?

WM – He worked on the first two albums we did which was absolutely wonderful. He came along at a time when we were still a young band and had no idea what to do and came up with the idea of either recording in Australia that would be a very national sounding recording or do something overseas that would really stand out in the international scene.

Who What Where with Tim Price of TRANSVAAL DIAMOND SYNDICATE

“Transvaal Diamond Syndicate have honed their craft. They have found their market. They have forged their trade routes in the industry. They are the smugglers of fine dirty, foot-stompin’, hard hittin’ blues rock. Their black market tunes come from a place of sweat, tears, blood and hardship – love lost, tribulations endured… rough, raw and unclean…” TRANSVAAL DIAMOND SYNDICATE – Facebook

Interview: Hannah Collins

Winston McCallOut on the run, and sitting quietly in a car it’s about 11.30AM when the phone rings.

It’s an anticipated call, an exciting sound, I answer, my heart beating with suspended animation.

LMM – Hello Hannah Speaking
WM – Hey Hannah It’s Winston [McCall] from Parkway Drive here.

LMM – So have you done a few interviews already this morning?
WM – No I haven’t actually, this is the first one.

LMM – Really? So you got to have a bit of a sleep in?
WM – *Laughs* Yeah a little bit!

LMM – Good Stuff. So you’ve been touring off the back of your latest release, Deep Blue, having done a recent national tour. The Brisbane leg of the show was stated to be (in your own words) one of or even the biggest headlining shows that you’ve played in Australia.

Who What Where with Tim Kent of Los Capitanes

“Los Capitanes is a controversial and turbulent new-age love story; like Sid and Nancy, Kurt and Courtney, or Bert and Ernie. Kent describes the band as ‘a sexless marriage, except with heaps of sex.’ Essentially, they are the sonic equivalent of the best, loudest, and most irresponsible and enthusiastic sex you can imagine…” Los Capitanes – Facebook

Interview with Winston McCall of Parkway Drive [Part 2]

READ PART 1 OF THIS INTERVIEW HERE.    –    READ FINAL PART OF INTERVIEW HERE!

Winston McCallLMM – Parkway Drive have played with some huge names in metal, like Killswitch Engage, Chimaira and In Flames. They’re all huge names in your genre so do you think there’s a reason that you feel a little bit more intimidated playing on the No Sleep Til tour?

WM – Well definitely because there’s a bunch of bands on the line up that we’re really good friends with..ie a Day to Remember among others but at the same time there’s bands that I’ve wanted to see for a hell of a long time that I’ve never gotten to see before, like NOFX and of course Descendants. We found out about NOFX first and we though to play with them would be insane cause we’re all massive NOFX fans from way back, we’re pretty big punk fans! Then we found out about Descendants those freaks! It’s insane to have a bill like that and its mind warping we’re playing with them. Its gunna be a really, really long day put it that way!

Australian based pop band Stray formed in Sydney at the end of 2006. Sharing the same passion for Pop music, they combined their talents and blended a mix of 80’s funk inspired bass lines, organic feel of RnB and the current Electro Pop/Rock dimension to create the Stray sound.

Dreaming Up The Vision: Interview with Leah Purcell, 11th October 2010 – LifeMusicMedia Interviews

Dreaming Up The Vision

Actor/Director Leah Purcell talks to Life Music Media about character, coming home, and the joy of performing in The Story of the Miracles at Cookie’s Table.

In 2008 actress Leah Purcell was honoured with Australian theatre’s highest recognition the Helpmann Award (Australia’s version of the Tony Award) for her role in Wesley Enoch’s The Story of the Miracles at Cookie’s Table. Produced in Sydney as a Hothouse Theatre/Griffin Theatre Company production and directed by Marion Potts, the play was critically acclaimed, making its mark as an important piece of contemporary Australian theatre. Now a new production, presented by QPAC and staged by Purcell’s Bungabura Productions, brings this quintessentially Queensland story home.

While deep into the plays rehearsal period, the actress, who is also directing this version, took time to answer some questions for Pepa Wolfe.

What is the play about?
Well there’re two story lines. There’s the history of the table – it was my Great-great Grandmother’s birth tree. When settlement happened on this island they cut down that birth tree and turned it into a table. As a little girl she followed the table and got a job as a cook in the house where the table ended up. And throughout the lifetimes the table has been passed down…

…To the present day story about my character Annie and her estranged son Nathan. They’ve been estranged for 25 years. She had him when she was 13 and she left because of the talk around the incident where she fell pregnant, and the lies around that. [Annie’s] mother Faith passes away, which brings Nathan and Annie back together. The surface story is to argue and discuss who gets the table, but though that discussion we learn more about each individual character.
