Bushfire Aid: Artists For The Bushfire Appeal has debuted at number one on the ARIA Compilation Chart, in an incredible show of support from the Australian public. With all artists and songwriters featured on the album donating their songs, and music retailers throwing their support behind it, Sony Music proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal through the charitable arm of the Australian Sony Group of Companies, The Sony Foundation.
Flo Rida storms the ARIA Singles Chart on debut this week, landing top spot with his single “Right Round”, which features singer Ke$ha. It’s also number one on the ARIA Digital Track Chart. “Right Round” is Flo Rida’s second number one single in Australia following “Low”, which spent 3 weeks at number one and was 2008’s highest selling single. It is the first number one debut since Kylie Minogue’s “2 Hearts” in November 2007, and is also the third digital only release to top the ARIA Singles Chart.

The “Countdown To Coldplay” is almost over, and with just seven days until the first Australian concert date, performing to 17,000 fans at Perth’s Burswood Dome, Coldplay have today announced that at their request, American rock band Mercury Rev will be joining the ‘Viva La Vida’ tour of Australia.

It’s been a magical past year for Melbourne’s hip-hop maestros TZU. Their Computer Love album stormed the ARIA Top 25, was nominated for the prestigious J Award (JJJ’s Album of the Year) and widely lauded by reviewers and fans alike. Throw in two sold out national tours and slots at a bevy of the country’s finest festivals, including crowning performances at the Falls and Big Day Out, and it was clearly a year to behold. |
If that was not enough, the boys embarked on a massive remix project which saw their peers remixing the entire Computer Love album.

Lily Allen debuts at Number One on ARIA Album Chart
Lily Allen’s new album, “It’s Not Me, It’s You” has raced straight to number one on the ARIA Album Chart this week, eclipsing her debut album “Alright Still” which peaked at #7 back in 2006. At the same time, “The Fear” has earned Lily her first top 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart, moving up from 13 to 8 this week.
In addition to Lily Allen, there are two further top 40 album debuts this week. Coming in at #3 is The Fray with their sophomore release “The Fray”, the follow up to “How To Save A Life” which hit #1 on the ARIA Album Chart in March 2007, some 9 months after release. Impacting at #21 is Ben Lee’s “The Rebirth Of Venus”, his sixth album since “Breathing Tornadoes” was released in 1998. |

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro return to Australia in March!
With the band currently holed up in their chilli Ayrshire practice pad, it seems a good time to announce that the band will break from demoing the fifth album and set off for a slightly sunnier climate.

From very early on in his career, Paul Kelly has been recognised as one of the most significant singer/songwriters in the country.
His influence over Australian music and Australian culture is wide and significant – backed up by the fact his new compilation Songs From The South – Volume 2 has gone Gold since its November 2008 release. |
As well as issuing an enduring body of work with his own bands, Kelly has written film scores (Lantana and the Cannes 2006 highlight, Jindabyne), and produced albums for and written songs with some of Australia and New Zealand’s finest artists.
Paul Kelly’s Songs From The South Volume 2 was recently released, along with a DVD collection of Paul Kelly videos from 1985 to 2008 and a double CD including Songs From The South Volume’s 1 & 2. You can find these at record stores and digital outlets now.
Since it’s release the positive reviews have been coming through thick and fast.

Connect Four Art Party – 19 July 2008

A creative cacophony for a community cause
On July 19 the 4C arts collective will host the Connect Four Art Party, the follow up to the highly successful premiere March event.
The evening will feature of massive array of art in a multiplicity of styles and formats including some of Brisbane’s best bands and DJs plus burlesque, circus and physical performance and all kinds of other shenanigans.
Supplies will be provided for attendees to create and participate in making art to add to the event.
All proceeds will be donated to the Women’s Legal Service. This organisation relies on grants and donations to provide free legal advice for women in difficult circumstances.Saturday, July 19, 2008

Tim Minchin is an Australian musician, actor, comedian and writer. Originally from Perth, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre at the University of Western Australia in 1995, then an Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Music at the Conservatorium of WA – part of the WA Academy of Performing Arts – in 1998. In 2002, he moved to Melbourne, where he began to develop the solo comedy shows which have gained him public and critical acclaim in the last three years. QPAC Nights Outside Presents Avalon Drive – 24 May 2008
Avalon Drive rocked out at the QPAC “Nights Outside” series of concerts.
Saturday saw an outstanding nights entertainment at QPAC’s Cascade Court outdoor venue. As part of the “Nights Outside” series of free concerts, Avalon Drive, Repeat Offender and Little Red Light made their mark.

Uncharted winners Avalon Drive will headline QPAC’s free Nights Outside concert this Saturday night.
The award-winning rock band who spent much of last year touring with INXS, The Veronicas and Yellowcard and performing their own national tours will take to the stage in QPAC’s Cascade Court as the lead act in a dynamic night of live music performed by some of Brisbane’s best up-and-coming rock bands.
Formed in 2005, in 2006, the band’s rise was imminent when they released the EP The City Of Burnt Out Lights which spawned two singles including radio favourite, Get Up which the band went on to perform nationally as Rove Live’s house band and guest performance on Toasted TV.
Joining Avalon Drive on the bill will be the five-piece Brisbane rock band Repeat Offender, who will perform its first all ages concert this year at QPAC. Repeat Offender has shared the stage with some of the country’s best musicians including The John Butler Trio, The Butterfly Effect, The Veronicas, My Chemical Romance and The Killers. Be sure to listen out to songs from the band’s first EP To a Modern Love.
Completing the rocking line-up will be the explosive trio Little Red Light. Incorporating a quirky, funk-rock style to its music, Little Red Light is a relative newcomer to Brisbane’s music scene, but already it is making a big impact with a growing fan base.
