2010 ARIA Award winners!

After an exciting lead-up to the 2010 ARIA Awards that has seen the presentation of sixteen ARIA ‘Genre’ Awards, four ARIA Artisan Awards and the induction of five bona fide music legends at a heartfelt ARIA Hall of Fame event, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) is proud to announce the final winners of the 2010 ARIA Awards season.

Before a capacity audience comprised of members of industry heavy weights and music fans, the final eleven ARIA Awards were presented in style at a dazzling event at Australia’s most iconic venue – the Sydney Opera House on Sunday 7 November 2010 (broadcast on Network Ten).

Capping off an extraordinary year, brother / sister act ANGUS & JULIA STONE have taken out the much coveted ARIA Award in the category of ALBUM OF THE YEAR. With thirteen lovingly crafted songs reflecting a myriad of emotions, the album is Down the Way, which peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Album Chart and has been an unstoppable force. ANGUS & JULIA STONE have also won the ARIA Award in the category of SINGLE OF THE YEAR for Big Jet Plane, a beautifully understated song with a dreamy string arrangement that has captured hearts. The siblings also won an ARIA Award on Friday night in the category of BEST ADULT ALTERNATIVE ALBUM and proving that their talent lies beyond writing and performing, ANGUS & JULIA STONE also won two ARIA Artisan Awards in September for PRODUCER OF THE YEAR and BEST COVER ART.

ARIA Chart News – Kings Of Leon holds at #1

Rihanna’s single “Only Girl (In The World)” becomes the first single this year to move back up to #1 position, chalking up four weeks on top of the ARIA Singles Chart in the process. The last time this happened was in September last year when David Guetta and “Sexy Bitch” enjoyed a split seven-week run at number one. Meanwhile on the ARIA Album Chart this week, Kings Of Leon continue to dominate with “Come Around Sundown” accruing two consecutive weeks at the pinnacle of the chart.

Further ARIA Album Chart action this week includes a number two debut for “Triple J’s Like A Version 6” release, compiled from various artists – it’s the most successful of this series to date, the closest any of the previous versions got to top spot on the main album chart was “Like A Version 3” at #24 in September 2007. Rod Stewart enjoys the greatest success for his “Songbook” series to date, with “Fly Me To The Moon…The Great American Songbook: Volume V” debuting at #4. All previous titles have hit the top 15, with the first 3 reaching top 10 and “It Had To Be You – The Great American Songbook” peaking at #5 in May 2003. Adam Lambert hits the top 5 for the first time after a massively success run of Australian tour dates – “For Your Entertainment” moving up a place to #5, just ahead of Angus & Julia Stone who are edging closer to the top once again with “Down The Way’ up from 9 to 6. With a hot new single and a wedding under her belt, girl of the moment Katy Perry also moves forward, with “Teenage Dream” up from 10 to 7.

Interview: Australian based pop band… STRAY

Australian based pop band Stray formed in Sydney at the end of 2006. Sharing the same passion for Pop music, they combined their talents and blended a mix of 80’s funk inspired bass lines, organic feel of RnB and the current Electro Pop/Rock dimension to create the Stray sound.

Life Music Media caught up with the duo *Alessandro Gaudiosi (Lead Vocals, Synths), Phil Lombardo (Drums, Synths)* to find out more about STRAY!

Hi guys, can you tell us a little about “Stray”?

Well, we are a 2 piece duo who just love pop music. we love to write it, produce it and most of all perform it-

We have just released our EP titeld ‘Sex, Love and Neon Lights‘ which features 5 tracks inspired by the great Michael Jackson and Prince. We really inspirie to write and perform music which has a commercial feel to it and I guess thats what Stray is all about in a nut shell.

CHARLIE MAYFAIR – SUNSET SOUNDS FOSTER BAND

Watch My Hands - Charlie MayfairCharlie Mayfair
In January 2010, a band was born: with fire in their bellies and rapture in their hearts, they took to stages sharing stories woven into songs. This band is Charlie Mayfair.

The early months of the year saw the band racing around their hometown writing songs, making friends, and letting people experience their unique style of folk-fired pop. They hollered their gigs from the rooftops and Brisbane heeded their call.

And so their three-part-harmonised hollering led them to play at many lovely venues like The Powerhouse, The Troubadour, The Zoo, The Sound Lounge, World Bar and The Old Museum sharing the stage with the talented likes of Old Man River, Dan Parsons, Skipping Girl Vinegar, The Bedroom Philosopher, The Boat People, Loren, TheCoronas (IRE) and Iceland’s Svavar Knutur, amongst others.

Wasting no time jumping into the studio, a short six months from inception, their debut release Watch My Hands “is a five-track harmony wonderland” (Scene Magazine) imbued with a bohemian flair while striding effortlessly between elements of folk and pop. Launched at The Zoo in Brisbane to an impressive capacity crowd, the release has since received enthusiastic nods from across the nation with a feature on triple j Unearthed, spot plays on the station, and a growing collection of glowing commentary on the bands’ live shows and debut recording.

Having made a quick trek to Sydney to launch the release to a welcoming reception at the Finders Keepers markets and MUM, the remaining months of 2010 will see the group once again hit the road for their first east coast tour which follows the release of their debut video clip for ‘If I Fell Down’. The shows will feature new songs and showcase the newly expanded bands’ impassioned live show.
