Live Review : Soundwave Festival 2015 – Brisbane

By Morgan Van Ewyk
Slash at Soundwave Festival 2015 - Brisbane
Battling the unrelenting humidity was one hundred percent worth the sweaty mess I had become, just to see the amazing talent on show this year at the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds. However, a welcome addition for Brisbane and Sydney venues, that would’ve been dearly missed in Melbourne and Adelaide, was the ‘Comfort Zones’ which provided lucky ticket holders an experience of luxurious proportions with clean amenities, massage services, exclusive bar service and deliciously prepared barista coffee. The perfect opportunity to recharge the batteries.

Live Review : Slash + Steel Panther – Festival Hall, Melbourne – 26th February 2015

Slash – Festival Hall, Melbourne
Walking up to Festival Hall on a Thursday night it was clear from the sea of black t-shirts and pleather that people were here for a rock show.

It’s kind of hard to feel like you’re at a real rock show though, when its 7pm on a warm Melbourne night and still daylight outside, however this didn’t stop support act Steel Panther instantly whipping up the crowd into a frenzy.

The Smashing Pumpkins at The Big Top - Luna Park, Sydney
It’s the most glorious time of the year; Soundwave time. Where Australia goes into a frenzy of anticipation for, not only the festival itself, but the promise of sidewaves in between.

Tonight, Japan’s stadium rock icons One OK Rock kick off a triple-threat billing at the Big Top.

Boris (JPN) – Live Noise Alive – Australian Tour 2015

BORIS

Legendary Japanese noisemakers Boris returns to our shores for the “Live Noise Alive” Australian tour.

19 albums in 19 years. That’s the studio discography of one of the most significant and prolific bands to emerge from Japan’s noise scene. The number gets tricky once you start counting the trio’s punishing live documents or their myriad co-conspirators – the double-LP with drone lords Sunn O))), the numerous collaborations with master sound manipulator Merzbow or the one-offs with the likes of Ian Astbury, Torche and Doomriders – all of which have put Boris at the forefront of the conversation about noise and doom in the last two decades.

Ben Folds and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall Mel
“There’s two types of cities, those that have symphony orchestras and those that don’t, the ones that don’t, generally suck.” – Ben Folds

Members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra sit patiently in wait as a bout of applause commences for conductor Nicholas Buc to take the stage, at this point you can tell the crowd is getting excited. Suddenly a rapturous applause echoes throughout Hamer Hall and a sharply suited Ben Folds walks out onto stage.

Don Walker Announces ‘Live at the Caravan’ with the warm neighbourly sound of The Suave Fucks‏

Don Walker

Don Walker releases a brand new live album, recorded at Melbourne’s Caravan Club, featuring songs from the acclaimed album ‘Hully Gully’ and the vast Don Walker catalogue.

Walker has few peers, if any, in illuminating the darker underbelly of the Australian psyche, whether he’s performing with Cold Chisel, Tex, Don and Charlie or solo. Angry women, luck-chasers, heartbroken prodigals who don’t smell good and anyone who just wants to throw the afternoon away on a game of pool – they’re all still there recorded live.
