Melbourne rock upstarts APES are about to release their ridiculously charismatic new single ‘Pull The Trigger’, and have just announced two single launch shows plus a BIGSOUND appearance. Busy, busy boys.
Concentrating this past twelve months on solidifying their fanbase and tailoring their sound, Apes are the archetype of a young act with a bright future ahead of them. Heavy triple j and BBC radio support has seen their star rise rapidly, as have impressive showings on the Big Day Out and Groovin’ The Moo stages, plus dates with Kingswood, Stonefield, The Love Junkies, Fidlar and Royal Blood. They’re currently catching their breath after tearing it up on tour with Band Of Skulls. Next stop is Sydney and Melbourne single launches in August, both tiny club shows that will no doubt sell fast and result in much beer spilt and many hands in the air, followed by a coveted spot on the live program at BIGSOUND 2014. Brash and tight, Apes’ live show will do them many favours as the band continue to work their way into the popular favour. Continue reading Apes to release ‘Pull The Trigger’ + Announce Launch Dates→

Amaya Laucirica celebrates the release of her latest double a-side single ‘Sleeping In Your Shadow / Anywhere She Went’ with a string of national support shows.

Following his fifth European tour, Melbourne-based international dream-folk troubadour Pete Uhlenbruch (aka Owls of the Swamp) is set to release his second full-length album, Go with River in mid 2011. The songs were recorded during a five-week solitary stint in a beach shack in Inverloch, Victoria, infusing the album with a captivating, spellbinding pace.
Fleshing out his reflections on solitude and nature, Uhlenbruch evoked guest performances from a worldwide cast of musicians before enlisting the masterful ears of J. Walker (from Machine Translations) and Andy Stewart who mixed the album in Gippsland., and Adam Dempsey who mastered the album in Melbourne. Heathen Child, the new single from the band Grinderman, will be released on 27th August. The premiere offering from their new studio album Grinderman 2, Heathen Child will be released through Mute with the complete album following on 10th September.
The song Heathen Child cuts a deep seductively heavy groove interjected with dazzling squalls of saw-tooth distortion. It abounds in lyrical imagery at turns lascivious, paranoid, philosophic, absurd and flat out abusive.
Easy To Love is the new autumn offering by Sydney four piece The Jezabels, another prominent track off the band’s second EP She’s So Hard (November 2009). Trailing the infectious first single ‘Hurt Me’, Easy To Love further cements the band’s signature drum/guitar shuffle, highlighting the effective dynamics of a well-placed silence, filled with the haunting and harmoniously sweet backing vocals of keyboardist Heather Shannon.
