Straight To You: Triple J’s Tribute to Nick Cave @ The Tivoli, Brisbane – November 20th, 2011 | Live Review
Review by Lauren Sherritt
On the night, Lindsay McDougall (aka Triple J’s ‘The Doctor’) introduced the concept well: “a show celebrating one of Australia’s music legends by the showcasing of new, young Australian talent”. Triple J’s tribute to Nick Cave, a series of concerts played around the country entitled Straight To You, remarkably achieved both of these objectives.

Art vs. Science @ The Tivoli, Brisbane on 9 July 2011 with Strange Talk – Live Review
Review: Lauren Sherritt

It has become a well known fact that New South Wales band Art vs. Science do not put on any ordinary live show. What they create is more than music, what they do is more than mere entertainment, and the allure of their act has had them selling out venues nationwide on their recent ‘The Experiment’ tour. As expected, their concluding performance at The Tivoli in Brisbane was an evening of riotous fun, insane dancing and marvellous spectacle. |

The Wombats @ The Tivoli, Brisbane – 5 May 2011 – Live Review
Review by: Lauren Sherritt
Known for catchy tunes, clever lyrics, playfully sung narratives and an outstanding energy, The Wombats played to a sold out Tivoli in Brisbane on Thursday night, giving their all to make it a night to remember for the fans attending.
So popular were tickets to the trio’s show that Thursday night’s gig was their second Brisbane performance, organised for those who had missed out on tickets for the original Tuesday night show. Being all ages, the evening started early, with doors opening at six-thirty and the band taking the stage just after eight. Populated mainly by teens delighted to be able to see the marsupial-inspired band in the flesh, the crowd got busy chanting for The Wombats early on.

Interview with DANDY WARHOLS guitarist PETER HOLSTROM – Australian Tour, Cash and Creativity
Interview by: Dermot Clarke
DANDY WARHOLS guitarist PETER HOLSTROM chats briefly about the band’s upcoming Australian tour (2011), and the way cash and creativity affect each other.
“It felt like after we did Parklife we hadn’t really performed to our fans,” a laid-back sounding Peter Holstrom says.
“We’d performed to a lot of people who were going to a dance music festival, and that was fun and great but we needed to come back and do shows for our fans, the ones who didn’t want to spend however much it was for a festival ticket to just see a few bands that they might like on it.”
The decadent rock outfit’s strong touring relationship with Australia can be traced back to their visit in 2000, on the back of their landmark album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. When they walked onstage for their Livid Festival set, they were met with such a screaming wall of white noise from the audience that they changed their set list on the spot, opening with the high-paced feedback dirge “Fast Driving Raveup With the Dandy Warhols”.

A Day To Remember and Underoath – Australian Tour – May 2011 [Tour News]
With Brisbane selling out in under a day we are thrilled to announce that the Sydney show has now sold out as well! Never one for resting on their laurels, A Day To Remember will now be playing a second and definitely FINAL Sydney show on Saturday 14 May at the Big Top, Luna Park.
The ability to evolve and push boundaries has never been more important than it is now. While the mainstream becomes safer, the dynamic, genre-bending acts are driven underground, to be discovered by a whole new generation of music fans not content with the identikit bands pushed at them through the major media. It is this hallowed place that A DAY TO REMEMBER has not-so-subtly taken over, from stereos to mosh pits across the world. |
