Q&A with Julia Henning

JH
With the release of new single ‘December’ from her debut album, ‘Fledgling’, and a national tour about to kick off, Julia Henning took time out to answer a few questions for Life Music Media.

: What track changed your life ::

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. This is the song that introduced me to his lyrics. It is such a haunting and powerful song, with so much feeling placed in each word. Leonard Cohen has become one of my greatest inspirations and helped me to see songwriting as more of a craft to be honed than something I just did for fun.

Interview with Jaska Raatikainen – Children of Bodom

CoBp

Ahead of their “HALO of BLOOD” Over Australia 2014 east coast tour, Children of Bodom drummer Jaska Raatikainen took time out for a chat.

Now that ‘Halo of Blood’ has been released for some time how does the album sit with you, in the scheme of your back catalogue?

Jaska: I think it is just normal and natural continuation for the band and sits just perfect to our back catalog. If thinking only music track by track there is maybe a little bigger variety between the songs on the new one. Meaning that we have perhaps the fastest and also the slowest ever song on the new release. And also a one very “rockish” song.

The album has a real clean, yet powerful sound, did the recording/production process for Halo of Blood differ from previous releases?

LMM: Your new album White Deer Park is due for release early next year.  How was the recording process and working with David Trumfio?

Luke: Dave was amazing. He’s really easy to get along with, he’s obviously brilliant (check out Wilco and My Morning Jacket!) and he really drove us in the right way. What I mean is that he made us feel at ease personally but pushed us out of our comfort zone musically – that balance really helped us to create something great during the recording process.
