2S5B1593Singer-songwriter Casey Barnes is set to release his highly anticipated EP ‘Flesh and Bone’ on June 13th. With his current single from the EP moving steadily up the CMC country charts and at #14 on All Australian Top 20 radio countdown, we had a quick chat with Casey about the release.

Your new EP ‘Flesh and Bone’ is due for release in June (2014). How was the recording process and working with producer Rick Price and Grammy Award winner Jason Lehning?

Working with both Rick and Jason was just amazing. Teaming up with Rick writing these new tracks has just taken them to a whole new level and Jason Lehning is basically the icing on the cake. I’ve been very fortunate to work with both of them.

The first single “Valentine” has been well received and gained plenty of airplay. For the uninitiated, how would you describe your sound?

Good question… I think this latest EP is probably the best reflection of where I’ve always wanted my sound to be. It’s a real mix between folk, blues and country I guess. We were lucky to get in some of the best session players in Nashville when we recorded so that made a huge difference too.

Tell us a little about working with your wife who featured in the song “Valentine”?

Well Michelle and I have been singing together for years and our friends & family have always asked when we’d actually record a track together. It was great to finally do that with ‘Valentine’ and we’re both really proud of how it turned out.

Current single ‘Flesh and Bone’ reached the final of the International Songwriting Competition. That’s a great achievement, can you tell us more about this?

Was pretty blown away when we heard the track had made the final… Especially when this year they had over 20,000 entries from all over the world. A lot of Aussie acts have done well in the past in the same competition so the judges must rate us highly which is nice to know.

How is ‘Flesh and Bone’ different to your previous album ‘Jet Trails’?

I think the songs on the new EP Flesh & Bone tie in a little better and reflect where I want to be musically right now… Rick and I have co-written ever track together. Jet Trails was a lot of fun recording and I teamed up with several different writers when we wrote that album. It also has a little more variety style wise.

You have a quite a few live shows happening over the next months. Is there anything you would like to say to your fan base ahead of the tour?

I’d LOVE to see you at a live show… I’m actually going to be travelling all over the place so hopefully I’ll get to see as many people as possible. I’m really looking forward to finally playing all these new songs live now!
