The Frontier Touring Company announces the return of Regina Spektor to Australia and New Zealand in April this year.
When Regina Spektor’s family moved from her birthplace of the Soviet Union to America’s Bronx, her musical interests and talent expanded from the genre of classical music toward the vibrancy of pop and rock. These transitions of location and taste are reflected in the classical artistry within her piano composition and distinctive eclectic fusion of sounds. Adding to her repertoire of skills is her ability to play not only the piano but the guitar and occasional percussion as well, rendering her a truly versatile musician.

Aspiring chamber music performers from around the state are tuning up in anticipation of QPAC’s inaugural Playing it Together competition regional heats this week.
Secondary School Chamber music groups were invited to enter the competition, launched in April this year, with 45 groups from Cairns to the Gold Coast set to take up the challenge.

In times of economic crisis and super star deaths, the one thing you can count on is laughter and Sammy J delivers it in abundance! Appearing at the Cremorne Theatre QPAC as part of the” In Stitches” Comedy Festival in a bizarre and surreal puppet show for adults. Imagine the music of Disney, the drama of Lord of the Rings, and the emotion of Les Miserables. Then blindfold them, beat them, regain their trust, beat them again, and you might end up with something resembling the Muppets meet South Park. This is the comedy of Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams. |

Delving behind the music and into Cave’s imagination and the sources of his unique vision through original lyrics, notebooks, artwork, photography and books; as well as objects from the musician’s own library and office, Nick Cave – the exhibition is on at the Tony Gould Gallery at QPAC Museum, from 24 March to 9 May 2009. |

It is nearly a decade since the “story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery” played in Australia. Fresh from touring nationally with The Polyphonic Spree and ahead of their national tour with The Grates, Brisbane’s The John Steel Singers return home to headline at QPAC’s Nights Outside.
Describing themselves as “purveyors of glorious backyard summer pop melodies” the John Steel Singers, also known as Tim Morrissey, Scott Bromiley, Ross Chandler, Pete Bernoth, Pat McDermott and Luke McDonald, will take centre stage in QPAC’s outdoor music venue, Cascade Court, on 23 August.
Triple J Next Crop winners in 2007 and finalists in the Q Song Awards 2008, John Steel Singers’ recently released mini LP ‘The Beagle and The Dove’ to rave reviews.
The Nights Outside line-up will also include performances by Brisbane rock, indie, post punk four-piece The Gallant and French pop, punk, reggae outfit, Yeo and the Fresh Goods.
