PVT (formerly Pivot) ‘Church With No Magic’ Tour – August 2010

In celebration of their New Name and New Album, PVT (formerly Pivot) announce their 2010 national tour.

‘Church With No Magic’, the follow-up to PVT’s 2008 album ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’, released on July 19th through Warp Records, reflects a literal and sonic transformation for the band.

From the start, there was an urgency to secure the sound that would become ‘Church With No Magic’. Just one month after they handed over the master of ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’ to the label boss, the three members of PVT were in the studio in Sydney with engineer Burke Reid.

Review: Dillinger Escape Plan @ The Metro Theatre – Friday May 21, 2010

Review: Ben Hosking
A video camera appears at the front doors of the Metro Theatre on Sydney’s George Street and the assembled throng erupt with screams and cheers. The footpath is a fast-flowing river of regular folk, looking on curiously as the rag-tag gathering of music fans chant “Dillinger Escape Plan rawk!”

It’s a cold, rainy evening in Sydney’s CBD as hundreds stream into the iconic venue to witness a night of musical and at times, personal destruction courtesy of the US band mentioned above.

Live Review: Ball Park Music, Blame Ringo, Tin Can Radio @ The Zoo, Brisbane 21 May 2010

Review: Ben Connolly

Eclecticism is a menu item at The Zoo for a dreary winter’s night as Ball Park Music launch yet another release. The eclecticism takes a great leap into the abyss of craziness straight up, however, with first band Tin Can Radio’s everything-and-the-kitchen-sink ethos. It’s genre mash-up pulled off almost to perfection, with elements of hip hop and dancehall melded with solid parts of rocking goodness. Instrument swapping and crowd-hyping antics sit comfortably along side

some serious head-banging and hair tossing, as they spend the first half of their short set sadly failing to entice the seemingly shy early crowd from getting down the front and dancing. The lack of response, however, failed to dent lead man Tom Wearne’s enthusiasm as he led his gang through numerous tension building jams and almost orgasmic rhythmic releases. His persistence finally paid off as, almost as one, the crowd came to life mid-set with new song Hot Trash and old favourite And Then Nothing filled the little dance floor with gyrating hips and floppy-haired bops. Ending with a shambolic number which showed the sheer joy of just barely keeping it together, TCR proved again how much of a delicious little secret this scene has been hiding. Darker Half – Touring July/August 2010

Darker Half play METAL: drawing on the roots of classic heavy metal, they have been inspired by thrash, power, death, speed and more to build a unique style all their own.

Darker Half come from Sydney Australia. The band is based around the dual guitars of Vo Simpson and Brad Dickson. The guitar harmonies of Vo and Brad intertwine searing lead breaks with Vo’s screaming power vocals and brutal doom growl across the solid yet adventurous bass and drums of Simon Hamilton and Dom Simpson.

Mark Seymour @ The Troubadour, Brisbane 4th June 2010

Mark Seymour is internationally regarded as one of Australia’s best singer / songwriters. Since making his name as the lead singer of Hunters & Collectors, Mark has enjoyed a stellar career as a singer and acoustic guitarist. He’s also composed film scores, written and performed music for theatrical productions and acted. Mark reached Australian rock cult status throughout the 80’s and 90’s as the lead singer for Hunters & Collectors, the band performed around the world, a rollicking eight piece funk ensemble. When in 1998, Mark decided he’d done all he could as the front man of Hunters & Collectors, he plunged into the unknown, finding himself alone on stage with just an acoustic guitar. In going solo, Mark discovered a new and refreshing intensity in his voice that he’d believed he’d lost in the band. Mark Seymour’s subsequent five solo albums, each of which has been highly successful, still bare the raw, emotional hallmarks of his writing for the landmark Hunters & Collectors album, Human Frailty.

Live Review: Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy, Goatwhore, Amenta @ The Metro Theatre – Friday 16 April 2010

Review: Ben Hosking
behemothThere can be no disputing that Behemoth’s latest tour has been one of the most anticipated events on the 2010 Australian metal calendar. Tonight’s full house should be evidence enough.

Outside, fans form a haphazard monochrome line up the adjacent alleyway as they wait patiently to get in. Some take swigs from take away beers, some inhale their last cigarette before entering the smoke-free zone and most talk excitedly amongst themselves about what they’re about to witness.
