TZU ‘COVER UP MOTEL’ FAREWELL 2009 TOUR

TZU ‘COVER UP MOTEL’ FAREWELL 2009 TOUR

TZU - Open Arms Festival @ Coffs Harbour - November 2008 It’s been a magical past year for Melbourne’s hip-hop maestros TZU. Their Computer Love album stormed the ARIA Top 25, was nominated for the prestigious J Award (JJJ’s Album of the Year) and widely lauded by reviewers and fans alike. Throw in two sold out national tours and slots at a bevy of the country’s finest festivals, including crowning performances at the Falls and Big Day Out, and it was clearly a year to behold. TZU - Open Arms Festival @ Coffs Harbour - November 2008

If that was not enough, the boys embarked on a massive remix project which saw their peers remixing the entire Computer Love album.

San Valentino Bordello Show @ The Globe, Brisbane 14 February 2009 – Review

Review: San Valentino Bordello Show at The Globe, Brisbane 14 February 2009
Author: Lisa Lamb

Who knows when the fifties revival began? Maybe with *The Stray Cats* in the eighties, maybe in the seventies with Grease and Happy Days, or maybe The Wintersun Festival helping bring modern rockabilly rebels and greaser bands in to the limelight, such as Paulie & his Crazy Rhythm Boys, who opened the show on the foyer stage in authentic fifites style with thier double bass, duck tails, pants and guitars under the armpits. Some music is simply meant to be heard live, and rockabilly is one of them! The energy just makes you want to get up and shake to the rythm. It was like a scene from Back to the Future and this was the McFly band discovering Rock n Roll.

On the main stage The Wretched Villains stand out from the crowd sounding like an alternate gothic rock band from the late eighties, with influences from Nick Cave and Siouxie & the Banshees. Drawing upon the deep swamp blues and British post punk they produce a dark, classic and haunting sound giving a good contrast to the lightweight fifties sounds in the foyer.

The Living End raise the alarm for arena tour (see what I did there?)
Everyone’s favourite Australian alternative rockabilly punk rock band The Living End have announced a tour of the East Coast and Perth taking place over the four Fridays in May. “So what!” I hear you shout. Well, before I continue I’ll ask you to calm down. Calm now? Good. The unusual thing about this tour is that dates in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth will be taking place in arenas. The tour will be the first time the Melbourne band has headlined an arena tour in Australia and will be the band’s only major city performances in 2009.

Coming along for the ride are Perth grunge act Gyroscope and blog buzz band (BBB?) Tame Impala. All four shows will be all-ages and for something quite unusual for arena shows, tickets will be under $60! The Living End will also be re-releasing White Noise with a bonus CD full of rare never released before tracks, and tickets buyers will be able to add the release onto the ticket price for a nominal fee. How’s that for service.
