However, after the electrifying, but untimely display by Mother Nature described as a “once in a hundred year storm”, festival organisers have bunkered down to ensure that Pyramid 2010 has the capacity to deal with any out of the ordinary event.

Booking acts for Pyramid began early this year with artists from all over the globe showing their support for the festival, ensuring that this year Pyramid will undoubtedly be hosting its best line up to date with the first round of acts revealed on August 26.

LITTLE RED “Rock It” Single and Tour Dates – July 2010

Melbourne melodicists Little Red have delivered the first single, ‘Rock It’, from their highly anticipated second album – and the response has been overwhelming. Premiered on Triple J’s breakfast show at the end of last week, the song has been on repeat rotation over recent days and has instantly received an official rotation add from the station.

Taken from the as-yet-untitled sophomore album (due out this September on Liberation Records), the song marks a cleaner, more hi-fi sound that was brought to life in collaboration with producer Scott Horscroft (The Temper Trap, The Presets, Silverchair). ‘Rock It’ is party music of the best kind: warm, infectious, straightforward and unadorned. It is the sound of a band moving even further toward a sound entirely their own, blurring their influences as they do the decades of classic pop they draw from.

Meanwhile, the band has announced a return to the live arena with a series of Rock It single launches around the country throughout July, culminating with a prime slot at the massive Splendour in the Grass festival. The lads have been one of the country’s most loved live acts ever since their emergence of a few years back, and it is standard practice that these shows will be a non-stop party of energy, huge melodies and good times. Fans will also hear the band premiering a selection of brilliant new songs from the forthcoming album. Tickets are sure to go quickly, so don’t hesitate.

The band’s next immediate step is London as they jet off to the UK this weekend to perform at next week’s Musexpo conference in London, as well as performing additional showcases over the following week. Their debut Listen to Little Red, a Top 30 hit at home, also received critical acclaim in the UK and anticipation is certainly high for these return shows.

‘Rock It’ the new single is OUT NOW on iTunes via Liberation Music.

Review: Splendour In The Grass 2009 – Day 1

By: Elize Strydom

The clouds have cleared and it’s a sunny 21 degree-er in Byron Bay. I’m at Splendour In The Grass but there ain’t a lot of green stuff on the ground at Belongil Feilds. No matter, no one really comes to this festival to hang out on the lawn, right?

I make my way through the gates sans sniffer dogs and my friend and I head over to the Supertop. “Let’s watch Manchester United!” I enthuse.

“Um, okay.” He says, “Not sure who they’re playing this weekend. But I know Manchester ORCHESTRA are about to play on this stage.”

Uh, yeah, that’s what I meant!

Manchester Orchestra look nothing like I expected – and no, I wasn’t expecting a real orchestra. Lead Singer Andy Hull reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix post identity crisis – a massive mop of hair, unkempt beard and wild eyes. He and his four band mates play long rock jams (with two drum kits!) with minimal lyrics and not a whole lot of interaction with the audience. I’m way up the back and people around me are into it, despite the fact that for most this is the first they’ve seen or heard from the Atlanta quintet. When they break out with triple j fave ‘I’ve Got Friends’ the crowd goes wild. It’s pretty different from the rest of their set. The song has the distinct structure of a ‘single’. When it’s over a bunch of people clear out but I stick around to the end and am not disappointed.

Sunday Selection: Drawn from Bees : 21 June 2009

LifeMusicMedia Sunday Selection is your weekly view to Queensland Artists

Drawn from Bees    With their compelling live show and a much-loved storybook 2008 debut EP, The Boy and the Ocean, Drawn from Bees, have grown their now devoted audience to a respectful size in the time-honoured way, by quietly winning people over, one show at a time.

The band set themselves the ambitious task of writing, recording and releasing a new batch of music every six months. In late 2008 they begged, borrowed and stole to piece together a much more expansive body of work.

March 2009 marked their second release, a new collection of 9 musical stories entitled, And the Blind Shall Lead the Way, delving into rich Russian-chorale influenced vocal harmonies and melody-laden Australian art-rock.

BIG DAY OUT is dedicated to providing good times. And to help us do this in 2009, we’ve called on the band dubbed Boston’s answer to the Ramones – the legendary DROPKICK MURPHYS. This loud, raucous and chaotic seven-piece Celtic punk combo hits the stage with one goal: to play music that creates an all-for-one, one-for-all environment where everyone is encouraged to participate, sing along, and have a good time. Sounds good to us! So let the good times roll with DROPKICK MURPHYS at BIG DAY OUT 2009. (ALL SHOWS)
