Recently described as ‘innovative but kind of messed up’, the band splices the textures and improvisation of jazz with the numerous styles of metal; thrash, grindcore, march, ambience, among others.

Under the oppression of Andre Bonetti, composer and electric-vibraphonist, Valtozash has among the hottest players in Brisbane and boasts a seven piece horn section.

Bluesfest 2011 Dates Announced!

After a successful Bluesfest’s 21st birthday celebration event during Easter 2010 – planning for Bluesfest 2011 is now in full swing.

The 22nd annual Bluesfest 2011 event will take place over five days between April 21 and April 25, 2011, once again at the festival’s new permanent site at Tyagarah, 12 minutes north of Byron Bay.

New awards and nominations for Bluesfest include: recognition as an international winner in The Greener Festival awards – for the fourth year in a row – a continuing tribute to the event’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability. Bluesfest has also picked up a Silver Award in the ‘Major Festivals and Events’ category in the North Coast Tourism Awards. And lastly, Bluesfest has been nominated as finalists in the Australian Event of the Year Awards in two categories: ‘Best Cultural or Arts Event’ and ‘Best Achievement in Sustainability’.

Sleepy, seaside fishing village gets its loudest wakeup call yet as Pikelet helps launch the first of the line up and some exciting new developments for the 14th annual Queenscliff Music Festival.

The first round of artists for this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival have been revealed as well as a number of exciting, new announcements at a special launch event on Tuesday 10th August, held at Melbourne’s Transit Lounge, where the incomparable girl-with-the-loop-pedal, Evelyn Morris aka.Pikelet, dangled the musical carrot with a Festival preview performance.The 2010 festival line up when completed will deliver over 80 acts presenting 150 performances in 13 venues across Queenscliff on the weekend of 26-27-28 November.

Today’s Queenscliff Music Festival media launch included a set by the charming PIKELET.

Direct from 3 years of staging large scale concerts in Macau and 10 years at the USA’s Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, New Festival Director, Michael Carrucan, has added a new stage called The Crossing Stage, and ensured everything kicks off on an ultra high note with The Lighthouse Stage opening a day earlier to encompass the Friday night. Goodnight Owl can lead the way in two directions, an embrace of the dawn, or an adventure into the dark. Make it what you will, this 4 piece Melbourne band play a mixture of pop, folk, electronic, ambient, and post-rock music which takes the listener on a journey lyrically and musically.

The development of Goodnight Owl’s sound was significantly inspired when Eddie Alexander (vocals, guitar, bells, melodica, drum) was joined by childhood friends from Alice Springs Bella Walker (keys, glockenspiel) and Joe Walker (electronics, keys, glockenspiel, guitar, drum, melodica) in Melbourne, and met Eric Moore (drums) in 2009 to form what is now the band for live performances. Island Vibe Festival 2009 : Stradbroke Island, QLD 30 Oct – 1 Nov 2009

Island Vibe 2009   Welcome to Island Vibe – Australia’s finest eco festival celebrating music, dance, arts and Island Culture. Island Vibe runs over 3 magical days at Home Beach on Minjerribah (Stradbroke island), less than two hours from downtown Brisbane.

Each year Island Vibe attracts people the world over to gather and enjoy a diverse line up of great reggae, roots, dub, soul, world music and dancehall, whilst cultural dancers, circus performers and visual artists display their talents. As well as hosting a smashing array of international and national acts, a sizeable chunk of the program is dedicated to showcasing the fantastic emerging acts of South East Queensland and the South Pacific. The program this year is expanding to include more Island themed workshops and forums in a dedicated Island Rhythm space.

Woodford Folk Festival

The Woodford Folk Festival is almost beyond words. A festival fantasy land that will fill all of your senses. From it’s humble beginnings in 1987, known then as the Maleny Folk Festival, this yearly event has grown into one of the largest ‘folk’ festivals in the world.

Woodford Folk Festival 08/09 – Launch

The 23rd Woodford Folk Festival presents a resplendent program of 580 acts and 2600 performers.  Festival Director and futurist, Bill Hauritz says “it’s our most ambitious programme in our 23 year history…”.

The festival runs from Thursday the 27th December through till late on Monday the 1st January.

 

Featuring some of the planet’s finest artists, Woodford Folk Festival truly represents our modern Australian culture and The Queensland Folk Federation is representative of a dynamic community of 2000 volunteers, 160 department heads and 20 full time staff who create the festival.  Negotiating the balance between community and professionalism is a rewarding challenge for all involved.

Woodford Folk Festival has become known as an incubator of fresh talent and it’s not just musicians who are nurtured at Woodford, there are platforms for visual artists, comedians, circus, vaudeville, healers, environmental leaders and for patrons through workshops, forums, volunteering and performance involvement. The 360acre site is also being lovingly regenerated.

   

This years highlights include festival favourites such as Lior, John Williamson, Dya Singh, Doch, Katie Noonan, Ash Grunwald, Augie March, Katie Miller-Heidke, Josh Pyke, That 1 Guy, Kristina Olsen, Waiting For Guinness, Backsliders, The Bird, Jeff Lang, Alistair Hulett and David Rovics, Martin Pearson, Wild Marmalade, Ernie Dingo, The Herd, Miguel, Leah Cotterell, Mr Percival, Bluegrass Parkway, Mic Conway¹s National Junk Band, the Amazing Drumming Monkeys, and Oka. Also there’s the captivating Mama Kin and a solo appearance by Harry Angus, the Cat Empire¹s trumpeter and vocalist who this time will bring his guitar.
