Splendour In The Grass 2015 – Review
Day 0 – Splendour in the Mud
Gumboots ☑
Ponchos ☑
Preparedness for the onslaught of Mud ☐
That last one was a miserable oversight on my behalf, after what seemed like the cruisiest drive from Melb to the Splendour site, we were all greeted with a battleground of punters who were already covered in a layer of muddy sludge. After begrudgingly setting up camp in the rain it was into the site we went.
Our tents may have been wet, but our spirits were not dampened,

News: The Medics ‘This Boat We Call Love’ East Coast Tour 2010
After quickly garnering the reputation as one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from Queensland’s ever-growing pool of the freakishly talented, The Medics are proud to announce the release of their second EP This Boat We Call Love and will celebrate with a series of East Coast launch shows with Melbourne’s Blackchords.
Like many a promising band, the stage is where The Medics truly shine. With their well-earned stripes in place after winning support slots for the likes of Something With Numbers, The Panics, The Grates, Faker, Blue King Brown and Scribe, the group of tight-knit friends have not only gained acclaim in their hometown of Cairns, far north Queensland, but are also pricking ears and turning the heads of the nation with their epic live show. Brimming with emotive songwriting, stunning musicianship and intense live performances, it won’t be long before the music lovers of Australia will be clambering to see the spectacle for themselves.
Released through Brisbane label Starving Kids, This Boat We Call Love was produced by Mark Myers from The Middle East and features five performances that walk the spectrum of rock – from the delicate and ambient to the jagged and intense.
Joining The Medics on the bulk of shows for their East Coast tour will be Melbourne’s Blackchords. After releasing their debut self-titled album in 2009 to many a glowing review, the band are now back in the country after a string of successful dates in the UK and France in the later part of the year. Wasting no time in jumping back into the spotlight to show off their gentle, swooning brand of rock, they’ll be joining The Medics on their New South Wales and Victorian dates.

Big Day Out 2009 Gold Coast Review
Big Day Out 2009 Gold Coast Review
Author: Tara Kai Hammond
Whilst 2009’s Big Day Out line up contained more locally-grown artists then big- name-crowd-pulling international acts; other activities and entertainment like the dunking-pool, the movie theatre, and the ‘ carny’ style rides; all helped this years festival to be a big day out of live sun, fun and music for all styles and ages.

Sporting band leader outfits, The Grates to took the stage and were an obvious crowd favourite. Patience has an instant reapport with the massive crowd and has them singing along and on each others shoulders, poppin and bobbin.

2009 BIG DAY OUT – SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT
Roll up! Roll up! Rock ’n’ roll ringmaster SERJ TANKIAN has donned his top hat and will be cracking the whip at BIG DAY OUT 2009. The System of a Down front man has gone solo with the multi-layered album Elect the Dead. Backed by his band the FCC, TANKIAN’s show is a vaudevillian explosion – part comedic, part heart-attack serious. A showman like no other, SERJ TANKIAN is guaranteed to bring the drama at BIG DAY OUT this summer. (ALL SHOWS)
BIG DAY OUT is dedicated to providing good times. And to help us do this in 2009, we’ve called on the band dubbed Boston’s answer to the Ramones – the legendary DROPKICK MURPHYS. This loud, raucous and chaotic seven-piece Celtic punk combo hits the stage with one goal: to play music that creates an all-for-one, one-for-all environment where everyone is encouraged to participate, sing along, and have a good time. Sounds good to us! So let the good times roll with DROPKICK MURPHYS at BIG DAY OUT 2009. (ALL SHOWS)
BIG DAY OUT 2009 – Official First Announcement
BIG DAY OUT 2009
THE OFFICIAL FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
With the global economy on the brink of collapse, what better time to ask people to hand over their hard earned money to escape the world for a day.
And who better to prove to you that investing in music is safer and returns much more than banks any day: the man who has seen it all, Neil Young.
This is a proud moment for BDO. After 17 years of producing the most dynamic, entertaining and challenging event we possibly can, this year’s shows promise to stand out from all others.
From the dynamic sounds of Arctic Monkeys or the lush depth of TV on the Radio to the wealth of great local talent or the welcome return of the Prodigy, the world’s biggest travellin’ circus will be once again back on the road next January.
We are also working on making sure the Melbourne site is green, has shade and offers the level of enjoyment you deserve. Drought or no drought.
So come and join us for just one day. We hope the first announcement will satisfy your musical needs, but for those who need more, there will be a second announcement in November…
BIG DAY OUT is honoured to announce the arrival of one of those rare modern musicians for whom the term “legend” is more under than over-statement: NEIL YOUNG. At a prolific phase of his 40-year-plus career, YOUNG is leading his band through eclectic set lists, picking from 2008’s Chrome Dreams II, delving into classics like Hey Hey, My My, and venting his activist’s spleen on Let’s Impeach the President. Witness the many faces of a true rock icon, NEIL YOUNG at BIG DAY OUT 2009. All shows |

Byron Bay Arts & Music Festival, Belongil Fields, 7-8 Jan 2009
Now “Sunset Sounds” in Brisbane on the 7th and 8th of January 2009… Click HERE for details.
***** The Byron Bay Arts and Music Festival Resurrection Delayed *****
It is with great disappointment that the Byron Bay Arts Crew announces The Byron Bay Arts and Music Festival will not happen this summer.
The festival, which originally ran from ’94 to ’96 and was organised by a collective of local arts & music enthusiasts, was due to be resurrected next January but hit regulatory hurdles. Despite securing a fantastic line-up; overwhelming support amongst the Byron Bay
community; and positive early indications from the local council, the organiser’s self-imposed deadline for obtaining final approvals for the venue expired last week. Whilst it is common for major events in Byron Bay to proceed without final approvals until only weeks before the event, organisers were uncomfortable with the level of risk given the significance of the line-up and organisation going in to the event.
With tickets due to go on sale later this month, organiser’s felt that cancelling the event was intensely regrettable yet the most responsible decision. The Byron Arts Crew are hopeful of resurrecting the festival in the future as it provides an important showcase opportunity for local music and arts as well as much needed entertainment to a vastly expanded Byron Bay population over summer. Organiser’s also wish to extend a sincere thank you and apology to the many people who have been part of the event as well as those who eagerly anticipated its return.
Music lovers need not despair as it has been confirmed that the majority of the bands will be coming together at a new Brisbane show presented by The Falls Festival – Sunset Sounds – More details announced shortly!
