The Cambridge Hotel is a legendary rock’n’roll pub on the outskirts of Newcastle, black painted walls, sticky carpet, signed drum-heads on the walls from some of Australia’s best-known bands, and was once a regular touring stop for international bands when they used to play shows in more than just Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

I must be honest; this is one event I have been looking forward to for a long time. This festival has been on fans’ lips for over eighteen months. A sell-out confirmed this day would be enormous, and I was excited to be a part of it.

Take three and the 33rd annual Bluesfest actually happened, much to the relief and joy of the entire Bluesfest community. Five days of celebrating some of the world’s finest musicians amongst old and new friends came to an end on Monday night. The festival grounds will be glad to see us gone, the trodden grass can regrow and the wildlife can get some much needed sleep.

Live Review : Bluesfest Byron Bay 2022 – Day 4

By Wanda Hill

Crowded House lived up to their name at the Crossroads as they could have filled two big tops with the amount of people trying to get close to the action. Parking sold out early for what was this year’s biggest day at Bluesfest. Pretty much the entire festival patronage gathered to see this much loved band. Despite most people choosing to sing along with Crowded House there was still plenty of awe and devotion for George Benson over at the Mojo, where he was filling the cool night air with romance and nostalgia, perfect for lovers.

Well it’s not a dream, it is real and it’s happening again. After so long without festivals it doesn’t seem possible to see live music, five consecutive days in a row. Day three and everything is smooth. The parking and traffic situation has been sorted, the long queues are a thing of yesterday and everything just feels a bit more relaxed. Families are out with their kids, many having their first ever festival experience.

Album Review : THUNDER – Dopamine

Review by Peter Coates – www.facebook.com/InsideEdgePhotography

THUNDER – Dopamine
Double LP
Released – April 29th 2022 via BMG

Thunder may be the band who will just never give up – having been a fan from the earliest Terraplane days in the late 1980’s, and having been lucky enough to be present at the 10th Anniversary “farewell” tour in 1999, and the 20 Years & Out show at Hammersmith Odeon in 2009 (despite moving to Australia in 1998) and even getting to shoot the sold-out Hammersmith Apollo show in March 2015, we felt thrilled to get the band to Australia in 2017 for some intimate, but very raucous club shows.

Driving down to what was a hometown gig, I was full of excitement. Nobody parties like a country crowd, and boy, was this a long time coming. From the beginning, I must compliment the promoters’ commitment to bringing this event to the town; after two years, who would not be excited.

Live Review : Catherine Britt at Crown Hotel Wentworth – 1st April 2022

Reviewer David Jackson – shotz by jackson

Every Catherine Britt concert is a reminder of how she is one of country music’s finest vocalists. Hailing from Newcastle, Britt continued her around Australia Bush Pubs Tour at Wentworth on Friday night. Describing her tour as a labour of love inspired by the late Slim Dusty, Britt’s goal is to take her music to every corner of the country. Despite the Covid disruptions, she has managed to cover a considerable amount of it.  Having three golden guitars and nominated for three more from her latest venture, ‘Home Truths’ in Tamworth, in two weeks. Britt has a long history of playing and collaborating with some of music’s best, including Sir Elton John. Britt is an artist that crosses many music barriers from blues to roots to heartfelt country.

Cheap Trick

As I write this review, I cannot begin without acknowledging the determination and commitment of promoters for delivering this show to Australian shores. On what is the third attempt to bring this show to Australian shores it eventually went off like clockwork, providing ticket holders with a killer show on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Victoria.
