Live Review: Billy Talent @ Billboard, Melbourne – 12 August 2012

Review by Nadia Hall
Billboard the Venue was full to the brim with Billy Talent fans on Sunday night, all eager to catch the Canadian quartet after an agonizing three and a half year wait between shows.

Guitarist Ian D’Sa (and his trademark quiff) was first to appear on stage, and he was soon joined by bassist Jon Gallant, and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk. The band opened the set with the electrifying riffs of ‘Devil in a Midnight Mass’, and shortly after, frontman Ben Kowalewicz appeared and greeted the adoring crowd. The band continued to belt out hard and fast tracks from their last three albums, with just a taste of their new material thrown in between. In no time the venue was filled with the unmistakable sweaty smell of a happy crowd.

Q&A with Marie Moe – Razika

Q&A with Marie Moe of Norwegian indie-ska-pop-rock four-piece Razika

:: What track changed your life ::
I remember the first time I heard the song “Speed king”, first track on Deep Purple’s album “In Rock”. I was around 13 and got really blown away. At that time I was listening a lot to commercial popmusic (like Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Green day, you get the picture), but after hearing this, my taste in music went in another direction. Fortunately.

:: What is your favourite Album ::
That’s a hard one, there are so many great albums! But if I have to pick one alltime favorite, maybe the “Electric Ladyland” album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I’m really into the old rock music.

:: Name a band or artist we should checkout ::
Young Dreams is a band from our hometown Bergen in Norway. They are really great and I think their album is coming out in Australia soon.

:: Favourite Quote ::
What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.

:: When on tour, you can’t live without ::
Toothbrush and toothpaste. Its amazing what a quick brushing can do, especially if you’re having a hang-over, hehe.

:: When you think of Australia, you think ::
Kangaroos? No. Beaches and sun and summer!
