Q&A with Marie Moe – Razika

Q&A with Marie Moe of Norwegian indie-ska-pop-rock four-piece Razika

:: What track changed your life ::
I remember the first time I heard the song “Speed king”, first track on Deep Purple’s album “In Rock”. I was around 13 and got really blown away. At that time I was listening a lot to commercial popmusic (like Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Green day, you get the picture), but after hearing this, my taste in music went in another direction. Fortunately.

:: What is your favourite Album ::
That’s a hard one, there are so many great albums! But if I have to pick one alltime favorite, maybe the “Electric Ladyland” album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I’m really into the old rock music.

:: Name a band or artist we should checkout ::
Young Dreams is a band from our hometown Bergen in Norway. They are really great and I think their album is coming out in Australia soon.

:: Favourite Quote ::
What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.

:: When on tour, you can’t live without ::
Toothbrush and toothpaste. Its amazing what a quick brushing can do, especially if you’re having a hang-over, hehe.

:: When you think of Australia, you think ::
Kangaroos? No. Beaches and sun and summer!

:: Worst thing to happen to music is ::
People who never heard Razika.

:: Best thing about the current music industry ::
The availability!

:: Biggest influence ::
Also a hard one. For Razika as a band I think the Norwegian new-wave band Program 81 has been one of the biggest influences. We found their record down in our practice-basement, and we all just thought it was so cool. Our album (Program 91) is named after this band.

:: Childhood hero ::
I was really into mermaids when I was young. I don’t know why, I guess it had something to do with their tails. So Ariel the mermaid (I don’t know if you know who that is in Australia) was one of my heroes. She defied an evil witch got together with a human prince, maybe not very heroic, but I thought she was very cool.

:: When you were younger you wanted to be ::
A mum. I still want to, but not for some years..

:: Last album bought ::
was by a Norwegian artist called Fredrik William Olsen. He is a part of a Norwegian band called Kråkesølv, but I guess you don’t know either him or Kråkesølv down in Australia. Anyway, that was the last album I bought, yesterday actually. It’s called “hver gang æ græv” which means “every time I dig”. Not dig like enjoying, but like digging in the ground.

:: First album you ever bought ::
I think that was Hits4Kids 1. I bought it from my cousin.

:: First concert you went to ::
That I don’t remember, I guess it was with my father. He is also a musician and plays in a band called Dance with a Stranger.

:: Last concert you went to ::
I was at a festival in the north of Norway a few weeks ago and saw Wolfmother! They are from Australia, right? That was great, I really loved their first album!

:: Favourite current band ::
Death by Unga Bunga! They play really cool 60s garagerock and are an amazing liveband! And their vocalist is really cute…

:: Favourite drink ::
BEER!

:: Favourite actor ::
Johnny Depp. He is a real rockstar! He is playing with the Black Keys, that’s cool.

::Favourite book ::
I’m not really much of a reader, but I really like “Hvite Niggere” (meaning White Niggers) by the Norwegian author Ingvar Ambjørnsen. One of the few books I’ve read more than once.

:: Favourite website ::
Facebook.

:: The best boredom buster is ::
I’m not entirely sure what you mean by boredom buster. If you mean a thing I do that reveals that I’m bored, I play a game called bubble town on my mobile phone. I haven’t got a smartphone yet..

:: The best film you ever saw was ::
I really like the Star Wars movies, but I can’t watch them more than once a year, then I get tired.

:: Your ultimate snack is ::
Liquorice! Salty!

:: The first thing you do when you wake up is ::
Sleep some more.

:: Best piece of advice you’ve received ::
Sleep when you’re tired and eat when you’re hungry.

:: Your biggest aspirations ::
To come and play with Razika in Australia!

:: Best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received ::
A lamp formed as a U.F.O with discolights in it. I got it for Christmas when I was a kid. Then I had my own discothèques in my room, that was fun.
