A couple of hours north of Sydney, nestled in the lush green expanse of the Hunter Valley, sits Hope Estate Winery, the serene and picturesque location for the NSW leg of Culture Club‘s Encore Tour. Featuring a lineup that seems to have come straight from the posters on my teenage bedroom wall, the concert featured support from five of Australia’s most iconic bands from the 80’s.

Live Review : THE CULT at Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane – 23 November 2016

The Art turn out to be a great option for The Cult tour, offering a punchy set of big solid indie rock driven by Kara Jayne on bass and the monstrous Jordan McDonald on the drums, differentiated from the pack by the contrasting lead vocals of Azaria Byrne and Kara Jayne which add to the tonal depth of the songs. Max Warne delivers in the spirit of young and reckless guitar-slingers, and we get some glorious echoes of Marc Bolan from the front man. The Art have just released their new album, “All In The Mind”, and they were the ideal support act and well received by the Brisbane crowd who were pretty happy to get a solid dose of The Art.

Hits & memories Live at the Foreshore! Picturesque Nobbys Beach, could you ask for a better backdrop for a concert? One of Australia’s most scenic beaches complete with a working lighthouse, a bustling harbour and all in the heart of Newcastle. “Live at the foreshore” returned to this venue, this time selling out with a week to spare. Record sales prove yet again this country’s fixation with past music icons is not going away, in fact it will only get bigger.

It’s been a pretty rad few days for fans of LA punks, The Bronx; who, having been added to the hectic bill of Violent Soho, Luca Brasi and Tired Lion – are currently doing a big old lap of our shores.

A mini rocking country fest arrived in Newcastle on Saturday night lead by Australian country music’s latest thing, The Wolfe Brothers. Live Review : Montaigne at Corner Hotel, Melbourne – 13 October 2016

Reviewer: Ben Connolly
Montaigne
A stage moniker borrowed from a 16 th century philosopher; an Unearthed gong before finishing high school; a teasing EP which was salivated over; and a 3-time ARIA nominated debut album. And all of this before your first headlining tour. It’s a helluva back-story for Montaigne’s eagerly anticipated run of headlining shows in support of her world-beating debut Glorious Heights.

This was the first visit to Hong Kong ever by the any incarnation of Earth Wind & Fire in their 47 year history, made all the more poignant coming only a few months after the death of founding member Maurice White in February this year.

Live Review : Adam Eckersley Band Live at Central Charlestown Leagues Club – July 23, 2016

by Natasha Wyborn
Adam Eckersley Band at Central Charlestown Leagues Club - 23 July 2016
Central Coast based four piece country rock outfit The Adam Eckersley Band sent the local football club into overdrive last Saturday night with a full on assault of their unique brand of country rock. Lead by one of Australia’s best on the axe, Eckersley is both modest and quiet in approach. Take this man and his band to a performing stage and they unleash the beast within to provide the bands ever growing audience with more than their monies worth.

Live Review : Dappled Cities at the Northcote Social Club, Melbourne – July 15, 2016

Review by Scott Singh
Dappled Citites

Tonight fans gathered at the Northcote Social Club to witness Dappled Cities return to glory. With a noticeable absence, expectations were set high for the night’s performance. Luckily, with exceptional support acts and a dedicated headliner, the show surely pleased all who attended.

Live Review : The Bennies at Max Watt’s, Melbourne – June 24, 2016

Review by Ben Connolly
The Bennies at Max Watt's, Melbourne - June 24, 2016 Photographer: Annie Wilson
If a word-cloud was done on The Bennies’ song lyrics, it would be a short but exhilarating list. With a subject matter focussed almost exclusively on hedonistic pursuits, the lyrics rarely venture outside the life of of a constant party, and the best ways in which to get there. The band’s live show is a perfect personification of that single-minded pursuit; their sold-out hometown gig at Max Watt’s to kick off their triumphant national tour is a masterclass in shambolic, euphoric pleasure seeking. And it’s as intoxicating as the substances they croon about.

Live Review : Steel Panther + Black Stone Cherry at Metro City, Perth – June 23, 2016

Review and photos by Peter Coates
Steel Panther at Metro City, Perth - June 23, 2016 Photographer: Peter Coates
The somewhat dated, chrome steel and neon lit Metro City seemed a perfect location for the flashy, trashy, lewd and crude beast of risqué cabaret and vaudeville that is a Steel Panther show, and with the packed house still streaming through the doors, southern US rockers Black Stone Cherry hit the stage and crash into Me and Mary Jane. Definitely Southern, and certainly bluesy, but with some alt-metal nuances, this is a band I have been a fan of for years, and they never fail to deliver a powerful live show.

If you don’t have a beard or at least love beards then this evening you might just be in the wrong place. This evening is all about beard appreciation in all its forms. There are beard songs naturally, beard jokes, beard admiration and of course copious amounts of beard stroking with one hell of a display of masculinity.
