Moniters announce debut single ‘Exit The System’ & Official Launch Dates

Meet The Moniters – a sub indie dirty electro-rock 3 piece from Brisbane, Australia.

The Moniters – ‘Exit the System’
The story so far is a fairly organic one: Comprising of frontman Jimi Lucas, drummer Matt Schrader and bassist Barney Gickel, the three band members met at a Killers concert when Jimi and Matt ran into Barney whom Matt already knew through some session work that they’d both collaborated on a few years earlier. They began demoing ideas up at Jimi’s place, with Jimi and Barney laying down ideas over sampled drums which Matt would then make his

changes across the top of. Once they had enough tracks together, they sent the demo’s down to Melbourne based producer Forrester Savell (Dead Letter Circus, Birds of Tokyo). Forrester, loving the tracks, asked the band to fly down to record them with him at sing sing south studios. Titled “Sex City Lovers” their resulting debut Ep is scheduled for 2011 release.

  Captivating. Atmospheric. Amazing.
All of these are words that describe Angus & Julia Stone’s performance at The Tivoli on the weekend.

The night started off with another talented boy girl duo, with support act Luluc taking to the stage with a series of folky acoustic songs. Zoe Randall and Steve Hassett played songs that soared with Randall’s full sounding vocals taking centre stage.

So once again Regurgitator had decided to hit the road for a run of shows. I have to confess that I grew up with this band; all through high school “the gurge” always made the playing list at our parties. So to see them live again was quite nostalgic for it brought back many memories of years gone by. DJ Krush had been brought along for the ride.

For the second time this week I saw DJ Krush warming up a crowd. I managed to see him on Friday at Valentino Up Late while I looked at art pieces and thought “hmmm that sounds pretty good can’t wait to hear him play his set tomorrow”.

I always found it fascinating that one person can control the energy of an entire room. The beginning of his set seemed a bit messy and you could tell by the response in the crowd. It appeared as if everyone was wondering around aimlessly trying to figure out what was being played on the stage.

Polarity @ The Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane 13th September 2010 – Live Review

Review: Lana Harris

The performance starts in enmeshed innocence, dancer wrapped around dancer, cheek to cheek, limb to limb, ebbing and flowing into one another. Behind these demonstrations of closeness sits a man alone in a chair. Far away from him is a woman in a lounge room setting – flickering lamp, thick rug, and a lonely expression. They both ignore the blatant yet playful seduction occurring in front of them. The dancers too, are oblivious to these others: wrapped up in the intensity of their unfolding romance, their focus remains themselves and their explorations. There is no question we are watching the beginnings of love.

ZIGGY, THE SONGS OF DAVID BOWIE – November 2010

If there’s one pop artist that multiple generations can relate to its David Bowie. There’s always a tinge of nostalgia listening to Bowie’s mellifluous tones whether it is listening to the Man Who Fell To Earth, Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane or of course The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, which signified his ‘comeback’ in 1972 after a brief lull in his pop career.

ZIGGY, THE SONGS OF DAVID BOWIE pays homage to Bowie, the pop phenomenon – the influential individualist with the uncanny ability to push boundaries and transform himself and the world around him. Performed by four of Australia’s leading contemporary musicians and performers – iOTA, Jeff Duff, Steve Balbi and Brydon Stace – Ziggy, the Songs of David Bowie is as multi-dimensional as the man himself.
