Tonight I stood amidst a small, intimate, eager crowd at the Triffid Bar in Brisbane’s Newstead, waiting for Rock and Roll icon, former Runaways lead singer and soloist, Cherie Currie to take the stage. For the first time in her 40 year career, Currie told the audience she was about to full-fill a life-long dream of hers; visiting and performing in Australia. Once described as “the lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot,” (Bomp Magazine 1976) Currie showed us tonight that she still has the same beauty and unprecedented swagger of her 15 year old self.

On Monday I sat down to speak with one of my favourite musicians of all time, and I’m not too proud to admit, I was extremely nervous. While she may refer to herself as “…just a chainsaw carver from the San Fernando Valley…”, the rest of the world know Cherie Currie as the fifteen-year-old singer who revolutionised the music industry and redefined women’s role in rock. As the front woman of the world’s first ever all girl rock band, playing alongside Joan Jett to make music history, Currie’s life sounds like something Hollywood would dream up; and the rock and roll powerhouse isn’t finished redefining music yet.

The Tivoli Theatre in Brisbane was abuzz tonight as a diverse crowd of music-lovers ranging in age from 20 to 70 awaited the much anticipated return of Swedish born, Argentinean singer/songwriter, Jose Gonzalez. And it is safe to say, the show more than surpassed everyone’s expectations.

From the genesis of grunge to two multi-award winning bands to a solo career spanning 5 albums and 10 years, Chris Cornell never disappoints; and tonight’s acoustic solo performance at QPAC was no exception. The post-90’s Gen X crowd swooned for a chance to see the former Audioslave front man, a sea of Soundgarden shirts and combat boots calmly making their way into the auditorium for what many will argue was the greatest Chris Cornell show to date.

Live Review : Godsmack + Papa Roach at The Tivoli, Brisbane – February 26, 2015

When Godsmack took to the Tivoli stage in Brisbane last night for the very first time in their 17 year career, fans were understandably excited and anything but disappointed. An eclectic audience with ages ranging from 18 to 55, styles from jeans and a t-shirt to full metal punk wear, both men and women turned up for their first opportunity to rock out to the American alternative/metal band live.
