Susan Boyle achieves a further milestone as Mumford & Sons and Muse blast up
ARIA Charts…

Holding tight at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart for a tenth consecutive week is Susan Boyle’s mammoth debut release “I Dreamed A Dream”, which becomes only the second album since 2000 to remain at number one for ten weeks straight. The Moulin Rouge soundtrack accrued eleven weeks running in 2001, with three other releases chalking up ten or more non-consecutive weeks at number one in the last decade. The most recent album to eclipse the ten-week mark was “Only By The Night” from Kings Of Leon, which spent fourteen weeks in peak position over three instalments in 2008/2009. Dominating the ARIA Singles Chart for the fifth week straight is Owl City‘s double platinum smash “Fireflies”, which also achieves its sixth week at the top of the ARIA Digital Tracks Chart.

As Iyaz moves up to #2 with “Replay” and Ke$ha takes out spots three and four with “Tik Tok” and “Blah Blah Blah” respectively, English lads Mumford & Sons propel up the ARIA Singles Chart with their hit “Little Lion Man”. The infectious single jumps eleven spots to #5 after taking out the crown on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2009 last week, capping off the countdown with a live rendition of the song. Jay Sean’s “Do You Remember?” continues to steadily climb the chart, moving up six spots to #12 this week to hit its highest peak to date. Following their national Big Day Out performances and Triple J Hottest 100 placing, Muse continue to impact the chart with “Undisclosed Desires” blasting from #25 to 13 and “Uprising” moving back into the top 40, sitting at #31. Another big performer in the Triple J Hottest 100, Bluejuice re-enters the top 40 with “Broken Leg” coming in at #32, and making top 40 debuts this week are the self-titled track from homegrown dance outfit Art vs. Science at #36 and “Flashback” from Calvin Harris at #40.

Big Day Out and the Triple J Hottest 100 heavily influence this week’s ARIA Album Chart, with the debut album “Sigh No More” from Mumford & Sons reaching a new peak of #2 and Muse‘s fifth studio album “The Resistance” blasting back into the top 10, landing at #8. In its second week on the chart, Owl City‘s “Ocean Eyes” moves up ten spots to #15 as the soundtrack to Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel jumps six spots to #16. Florence & The Machine’s debut album “Lungs” makes a huge leap from #48 to 19, while further down the chart the movers and shakers are: Kasabian’s “West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum” up eighteen spots to #23; Lisa Mitchell‘s “Wonder” re-entering the top 40 at #35 and “Manners” from Passion Pit jumping nineteen spots to #39.

The top three positions on the ARIA Digital Track Chart remain unchanged this week, with Iyaz’s “Replay” and
Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” holding at #2 and 3 respectively. “Little Lion Man” from Mumford & Sons shoots twelve spots up the chart to #4, with Jason DeRulo’s “Whatcha Say” rounding out the top 5. “Undisclosed Desires” from Muse jumps eleven spots to #12 as Jay Sean moves from #18 to 13 with “Do You Remember?”. Chart debuts include “Tik Tok (Parody)” from The Midnight Beast at #29, Calvin Harris‘s “Flashback” at #36, Rihanna‘s “Rude Boy” at #39 and “Naturally” from Selena Gomez & The Scene at #40.
In ARIA Music DVD Chart news, P!nk‘s “Funhouse” chalks up a massive sixteen weeks at the top, matching her tally for “Live From Wembley Arena” in 2007. “Up In Smoke” from Dr Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Warren G spent 20 weeks at the summit in 2001, and is the only DVD to have achieved a longer consecutive run at the top.
