WINTER STREET – THERE WE STAND [MP3 Stream]
There We Stand – Winter Street by showoffservices
Great things and monumental disasters often begin with words that run along lines like this, “I can’t promise that this will turn out well, but we’ll see”… Such words were spoken by Tom Iansek, guitarist/vocalist for Big Scary and erstwhile producer for Melbourne agents of devastatingly concise indie rock, Winter Street.

Confession enter studio for new album – April 2011
![]() |
Melbourne’s Confession is currently in Gothenburg, Sweden tracking their new full-length, the follow up to 2009’s Cancer. The latest record will be produced by Fredrik Nordström whose production credits include Bring Me The Horizon, I Killed The Prom Queen and In Flames. |
Frontman Michael Crafter commented “We spent time in Byron Bay at the Parkway house writing this record. Hopefully some of the magic the house has brought forward in the past shines through on these new songs. The new album is something we are proud of and touches on a lot of things in and around the lives we live. We decided to head to Sweden due to the fact European’s know metal and we feel Frederik will make this CD sound massive and he will bring a lot to the table as far as production and ideas go”
Expect the new album out in the coming months.

Status Quo “In The Army Now 2010” [LP Review]
Review: Natalie Salvo
Status Quo are a group of Englishmen known for their brand of boogie rock and have gotten a lot of mileage over the years from power chords and the furious sounds of fighting. Now it seems the band are giving a little something back by releasing a charity single titled “In The Army Now”. This release serves as part teaser to their forthcoming studio album, “Quid Pro Quo” and support for the British Armed Forces with profits from its sale going to the British Forces Foundation and Help For Heroes charities.
The Quo covered this track back in 1986 and scored a hit on the UK singles chart.
The 2010 version sees the lyrics get a revamp (to be more pro-army) plus an update to the music. But rest assured, there are still power chords aplenty and a chorus of angry young men (as the band are assisted by The Corps of Army Music). But strangely there are also hints of the atmospheric and in particular (and I kid you not) Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”.
This mini-LP comes with the two 2010 versions of the title track including full length and radio edits. There are also two studio rarities “I Ain’t Wasting My Time” and “One By One” and five live Quo numbers taken from shows performed in England in 2008 and 2009. These include their classics “Caroline,” “Whatever You Want” and “Down Down”. There are also videos for the title song and “Beginning Of The End”.
Quo fans won’t be disappointed with this collection of music as it showcases more of their boogie rock with big beefy guitar riffs that hint at AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, but all while having an added rock and roll bent – almost like what would happen if Little Richard did his musical thing but replaced his piano with an arsenal of guitars. With the speed of a freight train, energy of a battalion and the heavy firepower of modern artillery, Status Quo prove they’ve still got the chops to go into battle and take a stand for what they believe in. Basically it’s three power chords and the rock uncouth.

Interview with DANDY WARHOLS guitarist PETER HOLSTROM – Australian Tour, Cash and Creativity
Interview by: Dermot Clarke
DANDY WARHOLS guitarist PETER HOLSTROM chats briefly about the band’s upcoming Australian tour (2011), and the way cash and creativity affect each other.
“It felt like after we did Parklife we hadn’t really performed to our fans,” a laid-back sounding Peter Holstrom says.
“We’d performed to a lot of people who were going to a dance music festival, and that was fun and great but we needed to come back and do shows for our fans, the ones who didn’t want to spend however much it was for a festival ticket to just see a few bands that they might like on it.”
The decadent rock outfit’s strong touring relationship with Australia can be traced back to their visit in 2000, on the back of their landmark album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. When they walked onstage for their Livid Festival set, they were met with such a screaming wall of white noise from the audience that they changed their set list on the spot, opening with the high-paced feedback dirge “Fast Driving Raveup With the Dandy Warhols”.

ARIA Chart News: w/c 11 April 2011
For the first time this year, a local act has triumphed at the peak of the ARIA Album Chart, Perth’s Drapht enjoying his first taste of number one success! His new album “The Life Of Riley” has held off all comers to triumph in top spot, easily eclipsing his previous album chart effort of #64 with “Brothers Grimm” in June 2008.
Snoop Dogg delivers his second ARIA Singles Chart #1, with “Sweat (David Guetta Remix)” moving up from #2 this week to bump Jennifer Lopez into second spot. It’s almost six years since Snoop’s previous ARIA #1 single, “Signs”, which spent two weeks at the top of the chart in May 2005.

Sparkadia @ The Hi-Fi, Brisbane – April 08, 2011 [Live Review]
Review by: Lauren Sherritt
I headed to Sparkadia’s show on Friday April 8 at the Hi Fi in Brisbane with much the same feeling of trepidation that I had on hearing that the band was releasing a new album in March this year. Technically, I knew that the songs on the record were superb, just as I knew that the hype building about the The Great Impression tour and Sparkadia’s new live show had to mean something. I was troubled, though, by clear memories of a gig on the eighteenth of September in 2008 that had changed the way I viewed live music and made me worried that there was only disappointment to come by way of comparison.
