With musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who’s Tommy, How To Succeed…), WICKED is directed by 2003 and 2004 Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Assassins, Take Me Out, Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune). Set in a caravan park, the world premiere production Are We There Yet? is a classic travellers’ tale about a bunch of characters moving to Brisbane and takes a hilarious look at what makes up a family.

83 Car Event Guarantees Biggest Australian Event in Years At International Rally Of Queensland

THE biggest field for a championship rally in Australia in years, 83 cars, will start the International Rally of Queensland on the Sunshine Coast on Friday 30th July 2010.

The final entry list for the 30 July-1 August event features teams from India, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Australia, plus a star-studded driver line-up.

Starting in Caloundra on Friday night with two tarmac special stages at the Coates Hire Rally Shootout, the event will host round four of the 2010 FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship, round five of the Australian Rally Championship, rounds three and four of the Queensland Rally Championship, the third and final round of the Australian Classic Rally Competition and a category for All Comers. THE BLOODPOETS TO DANCE THEIR WAY AROUND THE COUNTRY!


The – The Bloodpoets 		  Brisbane five-piece, The Bloodpoets, are once again hitting the road to take their new single ‘Dance’ to the masses – the first taste of the band’s forthcoming album due to be released later this year.

The Bloodpoets – Tom Murphy (Vocals & Guitars), Jason Marles (Lead Guitar), Jake Parker (Bass), Todd Orchard (Drums) and Bec Plath (Keys & Backing Vocals) – will tour the east coast: Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Sydney but not before playing to over 25,000 people at Suncorp Stadium with a performance to open the Brisbane Roar game on August 27 ? a major coup for the band.

Rock for the Regent! 2 @ The Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley – Saturday 10th July 2010 [Live Review]

There was a great turnout at the Globe theatre on Saturday night, with Brisbane music fans coming together to support fundraising efforts to save the heritage of the Regent Theatre in the city.

While many may have come to see the headline act Wolfmother, the crowd was happy and buzzing all night, showing support for the variety of genres on display. And the outstanding Brissy line-up didn’t disappoint.

Swanky rockers Princess Rodeo were up first, and set the night off at a cracking pace. The dynamic three-piece and their charming blend of indie rock, played through a high energy set of catchy melodies and serious riffs. Their soon to be released single “Alternate Colours” makes you want to sing along, while the bassy groove of “Compelled to Crawl Under Your Thumb” and the heavier “Skeleton” pleased Wolfmother fans. They made an impressive start to the night, setting the tone for an evening of fun, dynamic, melodious rock, with soaring vocals and intricate guitars. Spare Parts: The School Competition!

  What is Spare Parts?
Spare Parts is an exhibition being held at the Brisbane Powerhouse from 9th November until 5th December 2010. The opening night is Friday 12th November 2010. Spare Parts will bring together a diverse range of artists all using pre-loved prosthetic limbs as their canvas.

As an exhibition Spare Parts will create and promote about 40 individual pieces of art and parallel to this, a positive and open conversation about prosthetics.

The diversity of artists is a very important component of the exhibition as is their interpretation of each limb. Those involved range from a world class graffiti artist, tattooists, a poet, painters, comic artists, to one of Australia’s most popular up and coming sculptors.

Mark Lanegan took a detour from his Australian tour to play for the special 50th birthday celebrations for Andrew McGee, one of the founders of Shock Records. The place was hosted by Quincy McLean (Blue Ruin) and Helen Marcou at the famous Bakehouse Recording Studios in Richmond. The people were the who’s who of the Melbourne Music Scene, everybody from former Bad Seed, Mick Harvey, Myf Warhurst, Brian Hooper (Beasts Of Burbon) Mick Turner (Dirty Three), Julian Wu (Triffids), Bruce Milne (former Tote licencess), Paul Elliott (Polyester), Linda J, Bean & Gus of The Dacios, Penny Ikinger, Emily Ulman, Rui Pereira, James Young (Cherry Bar), Patrick Donovan (The Age) and lots more. The oriental theme was ENTER THE DRAGON with everybody dressed up as geishas, ninjas, grand masters, kill bill, etc. With 21 courses of food and amazing array of live music! Kicking off with Kim Salmon’s Precious Jules, known for inventing grunge with his former band, The Scientists. Following on was Joel Silbersher & The Baggage Handlers of GOD and Hoss fame. Headlining was international act, Mark Lanegan with David Rosser on guitar. To close off the splendid event, we had The Silver City Highway, while everybody danced the night away.

That’s Cool But Can You Make It More Sh*t?

To coincide with LCD Soundsystem’s Australian tour this month, LCD Soundsystem and DFA present a visual retrospective of their inspired artwork. The exhibition, titled “That’s Cool But Can You Make It More Sh*t?” will be open to the public from Wednesday July 28 until Tuesday August 3, 11am to 6pm daily, at the Tom Dunne Gallery, 11 Little Burton Street, Darlinghurst.
