Marky Ramone – Blitzkrieg Australian and New Zealand Tour 2017

This November will herald the return of true punk rock royalty Marky Ramone to our shores.

Marky is one of the last remaining members of The Ramones, and the one with the longest lineage, having handled skins duties for the formative punk outfit between 1978 to 1983 and again from 1987 until 1996. An original denizen of the NYC punk scene centered on Max’s Kansas City (Marky also played with Wayne County and Richard Hell’s Voidoids with whom he appeared on the classic Blank Generation LP), Marky is keeping The Ramones’ spirit burning bright and will be bringing a huge haul of Ramones classics to venues across Australia.

Neurosis (USA) Australia/New Zealand Tour – February 2017

neurosisposter-132554

Last year marked 30 years of Neurosis. From their beginnings as a hardcore punk outfit, the Oakland, California natives have spent more than three decades at the forefront of heavy music—their sound influencing big underground names like High On Fire, Yob and Mastodon. Now this genre-defying collective is once again breaking new ground with the release of their 11th studio album, Fires Within Fires.

*** SUPPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT ***

It is with great pleasure that LIFE IS NOISE can announce the hand-picked local supports for the upcoming Weedeater and Conan tour through New Zealand and Australia this July.

In Wellington on July 12 at the San Fran the main support will be the post-traumatic sludgescapists Opium Eater, and opening up the evening will be the nihilistic drone and doom of Ritual Abuse.

The tranced-out atmosphere and aggression of Shallow Grave will be on prior to the headline acts in Auckland on July 13 at Kings Arms. Getting things underway on the night will be those local legends of self loathing Bridge Burner.

Brisbane’s Crowbar is in for a real treat on July 14 (oooh la la) as the sunshine state’s premier sludge lords Lizzard Wizzard grace the main support slot. On first will be loud noise rock/metal outfit Grieg – determined to burst your eardrums before you get a beer.

On July 15 at Manning Bar, Weedeater and Conan will have some super heavy support with LIFE IS NOISE favourites Lo! and Thorax getting things started with the appropriate amount of grunt and fire.

At Max Watt’s Melbourne on July 16, the band with the best name in the city, Weedy Gonzalez, will get things rolling. And in the main support slot will be Merchant, fresh from unleashing their new menacing monster sludgefest, Suzerain.

We will wrap up the Weedeater and Conan tour at The Rosemount Hotel on July 17. Perth heavy-stoner trio Skullcave slot into the second support slot on the evening and starting things up will be local crust/metal sewer-group Territory.

Catch Weedeater and Conan on the following dates:

Wellington – San Fran – July 12
Auckland – Kings Arms – July 13
Brisbane – Crowbar – July 14
Sydney – Manning Bar – July 15
Melbourne – Max Watt’s – July 16
Perth – Rosemount Hotel – July 17

Tickets from lifeisnoise.com, oztix, the venues and undertheradar.co.nz for Auckland and Wellington.
**** End Update ***

For the first time ever, LIFE IS NOISE is proud to be bringing North Carolina’s favourite cough syrup swilling, hot sauce snorting weirdos, Weedeater to venues across Oz and NZ. Fronted by legendary bassist/vocalist “Dixie” Dave Collins, Weedeater are a dirty stoner force only to be fully appreciated up close and live with a show full of noise, sweat, spit, and fire. Weedeater will give you a contact high from merely listening.

There’s no band filthier than Weedeater. – Consequence of Sound

Over a two decade career Weedeater have put out some of the most devastating crust fuelled doom records – from the legendary Sixteen Tons to God Luck and Good Speed and now the latest THC-soaked genius, Goliathan.

While the Albini-engineered Goliathan is perhaps the best attempt to capture the rawness of a Weedeater show, there’s really no substitute for the real thing. Live Weedeater is a frenzied, chaotic maelstrom of Southern sludge and raspy yet somehow still viscous vocals. Prepare for a total body experience.

Anyone who has experienced the sonic rumblings and onstage antics of the almighty Weedeater live knows that it is always, without fail, a deliriously good time. – MetalSucks

CONAN
Conan are punishingly loud, mercilessly heavy and just downright menacing.

Forming in 2006, the Liverpudlian trio’s latest release, Revengeance, is their third album of “caveman battle doom” – where ferociously hammered drums and sludge-filled guitar and bass meet torturously howled vocals to create music that sounds like a herd of war elephants marching over the bones of a vanquished army.

Conan are an important band and Revengeance is their strongest material to date; an album to be enjoyed drenched in the blood of your enemies whilst wondering if the tinnitus is permanent. – The Monolith

On stage, Conan are simply a behemoth of a band playing in front of a wall of amplifiers pushed to their limit. Pummelingly intense, you don’t just see a Conan show, you try to survive it!

Catch Weedeater and Conan on the following dates:

Wellington – San Fran – July 12
Auckland – Kings Arms – July 13
Brisbane – Crowbar – July 14
Sydney – Manning Bar – July 15
Melbourne – Max Watt’s – July 16
Perth – Rosemount Hotel – July 17

Tickets from lifeisnoise.com, oztix, the venues and undertheradar.co.nz for Auckland and Wellington.

The Smith Street Band – Australian + New Zealand Shows – June 2016 **Tour Update**

SSB_USA_Tour_by_Ian_Laidlaw-7LO
One of Australia’s hardest working bands is at it again… Melbourne locals The Smith Street Band have barely stopped to take a breath since the release of their third album, 2014’s Throw Me In The River. Now before heading into the abyss to work on its follow-up, the four-piece have announced they’ll give Throw Me In The River one last run of live shows around Australia, and return to New Zealand for the second time.

Back in early 2015, shortly after two of the band’s biggest Australian tours to date, The Smith Street Band headed out to take Throw Me In The River around the world, touring through the UK, Europe and North America on several occasions, taking on Reading and Leeds Festivals (UK) and Belgium’s Groezrock. Not to mention homecoming performances at Splendour In The Grass, Poison City Weekender and their very own, and aptly titled, I Love Life Festivals in Sydney and Brisbane.

The Smith Street Band kicked off 2016 on the prestigious Laneway Festival tour. They then revisited the small Victorian country town of Forrest, where they recorded Throw Me In The River, to host the inaugural Weekend At The Wonk Festival, paying homage to the town that had treated them so well. In typical fashion, the band didn’t rest there, jetting straight to the US where they’re currently undertaking their first North American headline tour, playing sold out shows in New York, Philadelphia and Boston. Check out a video update from the band’s current adventures here:

Released to critical acclaim Throw Me In The River landed triple j album of the week and debuted in the ARIA top 20 album chart, scored the band a nomination for ‘Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album’ at the 2015 AIR Awards, ‘Live Act of the Year’ at the Rolling Stone Awards and took out the gong for ‘Best Live Band’ at The Age Music Victoria Awards. Single ‘Surrender’ came in at #69 in triple j’s Hottest 100 and their 7” release ‘Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin off Your Punchable Face’ donated all its profits to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

No stranger to top notch supports, the Australian leg will see The Smith Street Band joined by great friends and Tasmanian label mates Luca Brasi, touring in support of their brand new album If This Is All We’re Going To Be. Also on the bumper bill will be MC and multi-instrumentalist Joelistics and Melbourne’s Jess Locke Band.

This June, join relentless road warriors The Smith Street Band in celebrating and saying farewell to Throw Me In The River around Australia and New Zealand.
