The sold out 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra held at The Star Event Centre, Sydney and broadcast nationally on TEN capped off an extraordinary year for the Australian music industry. This year’s event certainly showcased and celebrated what a remarkable year 2014 has been for Australian music and artists. Australian music has been well and truly thrust onto the global stage in 2014 and for the first time the ARIA Awards will be broadcast to millions throughout Asia via Fox International.
The announcement of The Melbourne Zoo Twilights 2014 program towards the end of last year received a red hot response from music lovers with three shows selling out well ahead of the start of the season. Tickets to shows featuring Jessica Mauboy, Xavier Rudd and James Reyne and Daryl Braithwaite sold out in record time, with other shows selling fast.
Melbourne Zoo Twilights offer a unique experience combining wildlife, stunning musical performances and gourmet delights, all within the spectacular grounds of Melbourne Zoo, under the blanket of balmy summer nights.

There comes a point during the festival – usually when you’re trudging through the mud towards the Mojo tent to get a good possie for that band you can’t believe you’re about to see – when you get the blues. For the past few days you’ve existed inside a bubble of banjos, harmonicas, dust bowl/mud pit dancing, university cigarettes, gumboots, ferris wheels, Hare Krishna fare and music from across the globe. You’ve been wrapped up in a place where Crossroads, Mojo and Jambalaya (and maybe the port-a-loos) are the only destinations you need to remember. All of a sudden you realise it will all go up in smoke tomorrow. You’ll have to pull down your tent and sit in a traffic queue for an hour before you get to the highway and start your journey back to reality. I guess that’s why people come back again and again; to get another injection of the magic.

Michael Buble’s “Crazy Love” holds at #3 this week, as the self-titled album from touring super-group Them Crooked Vultures climbs five spots to round out the top 10 for the first time. 36 degree heat blistered the red carpet as an entourage of stylish Limousines followed suit to the entrance of the red carpet. The fans eagerly awaited their stars, one hand grasping their digital cameras in anticipation, the other holding a makeshift fan and the odd shout of “Robbie or Keith” could be heard from a distance.
As the stars made their way up the red carpet, photographers, Television production crew and journalists fought their way to the front to capture the moment.

Vanessa Amorosi swoops on top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week with her hit “This Is Who I Am”, scoring her first ever No.1 single and at the same time, ending the seven-week chart topping run of David Guetta‘s “Sexy Bitch” (feat. Akon). It’s the first single to hit No.1 on debut since Flo Rida‘s “Right Round” back in February, and only the second to have achieved this feat in the past twenty-two months. “This Is Who I Am” becomes Vanessa’s fifth ARIA top 10 single, surpassing the No.4 peaks achieved by “Shine” in 2000 and “Perfect” in 2008. Vanessa also becomes the first Aussie artist to claim simultaneous No.1’s on the ARIA Physical and Digital Track Charts since “Sweet About Me” from Gabriella Cilmi in June 2008.
The Black Eyed Peas blast up the ARIA Album Chart this week as their hit record “The E.N.D.” returns to the top for the third time, coinciding with their massive Australian tour. It reached No.1 on debut in June and again in August, staying in place for a week on both occasions. The last album to have three separate stints at the top of the album chart was Kings Of Leon’s “Only By The Night”. David Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch” (featuring Akon) holds at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, racking up a massive seven weeks and joining Flo Rida’s “Right Round” and “I Gotta Feeling” from The Black Eyed Peas as the longest running chart-topping singles of 2009.
