Jack Johnson’s exclusive 2010 Bluesfest appearances mark his first Australian appearances since March 2008, and his first Bluesfest appearances since 2005. These hotly anticipated Bluesfest performances are truly special as there will be no other Jack Johnson Australian shows on this tour! |
To add perspective on this announcement, Jack Johnson’s last Australian tour (2008) included a sold out Centennial Park in Sydney (28,000 capacity), and two Myer Music Bowl shows in Melbourne (about 20,000 capacity each). At Bluesfest, Jack will be joined by his long time band members Adam Topol (Drums), Merlo Podlewski (Bass) and Zach Gill (Keys).
Jack Johnson joined by his Brushfire label mates
In exciting news for fans, Jack Johnson will be joined this year by his Brushfire label mates (the label owned by Jack) at Bluesfest. Jack will be performing on the main stage twice, on Thursday April 1 and Saturday April 3. The Brushfire artists that will perform leading up to Jack’s own sets – also newly announced today – include label mates A.L.O (Animal Liberation Orchestra), Matt Costa, Zee Avi and Neil Halstead.
More new artists in today’s special announcement!
As part of the lead up to Jack Johnson’s performances, Festival Director Peter Noble has also scheduled some fantastic artists including Donavon Frankenreiter, Ozomatli, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club®, and Galactic. Jack Johnson and his management team reportedly “love the idea” of these particular artists also preceding his much anticipated Bluesfest sets. All apart from Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® are also newly announced today!
Jack says: “Surfs up in Byron this Easter”.
Festival Director Peter Noble said, “Without doubt this will be one of Bluesfest’s great and historical moments. I am so honoured to present Jack Johnson again – someone who is probably the most successful artist we’ve ever introduced to Australian audiences. We first presented him in 2002 at a time before he was a household name, but despite his incredible triumphs, he remains an incredibly down to earth and admirable person.
“The point is: Jack completely embodies the spirit of Bluesfest with his ethos and commitment to great music, sustainable living, peaceful mindedness, and cultural respect. So this is a wonderful way to mark the move to our new home in Tyagarah Tea Tree farm, 10 mins north of Byron, with an artist who remains a big part of the Bluesfest experience.”
Latest Jack Johnson release!
The latest Jack Johnson album is actually a live album and film – both called En Concert (released October 2009) – which chronicles his 2008 world tour, from sharing the stage at Bonnaroo with Eddie Vedder to leading a massive sing-along in Paris. Longtime favourites from Jack’s albums are interwoven with some of his favourite songs by Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon and Charles Wright. A fantastic document, En Concert, in its first week of release reached #21 in the Australian charts, and #11 in the American charts! And after just two weeks, En Concert has already gone Gold in Australia!
