Album Review: Cradle of Filth – Midnight in the Labyrinth

By Meghan Player
Cradle Of Filth have always been known for their signature take on the dark wave, gothic metal sound and grandiose theatrics. Latest offering, ‘Midnight in the Labyrinth’ – an orchestral selection of the bands first four albums – is no exception.

Opening with a glorious string section of sweeping, melodic sound ‘A Gothic Romance [Red Roses For The Devil’s Whore]’ pulls the listener into an album that not only celebrates the band, but reinvents the tracks that once pounded through your headphones.

‘The Twisted Nails of Faith’ sounds almost as if it has come straight from a melodramatic, theatrical musical – with striking strings, stirring vocals and choirs intertwining with frontman Dani Filth’s narrative growl.

Tour News: Steel Panther – New Sydney show announced and a venue upgrade in Adelaide!

UPDATE: SUPPORTS ANNOUNCED! For THE ART, it began in Newtown, Sydney where their edgy, fast-paced live shows gained not only local success, but also caught the attention of LA booker and ex Guns N’ Roses manager, Vicky Hamilton.

On the back of relentless touring supporting the likes of Them Crooked Vultures, Marilyn Manson and The Pixies amongst others, THE ART are returning to Australia with their latest album in tow ‘Here Comes The War’.

THE SPANDEX ARMY HAS SHOWN ITS MIGHT!

It took 13 minutes for STEEL PANTHER to completely sellout their Melbourne show at The Palace. The show moved to up to Festival Hall with nearly 3 times the capacity and sold out again!

Shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide (YES! Adelaide!) were not far behind in the expediency with which “ticket allocations” were “exhausted” and the flood of e-grief that poured into the promoter and band members’ inboxes.

So when we tell you, Sydney & Adelaide fans, that the band have decided to give their late buying fans a 2nd and final chance, we do so with caution. Tickets are limited. STEEL PANTHER’s pulling power on the other hand seems limitless. Don’t fuck around. There won’t be another chance.

Perth fans please note your show has moved a day forward and all tickets remain valid.

STEEL PANTHER are “Crude, rude, filthy, and more infectious than a bad case of herpes”. – Revolver Mag.
For STEEL PANTHER, bringing the halcyon days of metal back to the world is not a job…it’s a mission statement, a modus operandi, and a way of life.

In their first ever headline tour of Australia, STEEL PANTHER are primed for an all-out assault on the senses with Michael Starr commenting “I can’t wait to get my balls out in some fresh Australian air!” and Stixx adding ”I can’t wait to come to Australia and rock all the genitals off your women then they’ll know what America tastes like!”

Tour News: Fun Machine “Ready For The Fight” Tour | June-July 2012

Colourful Canberra trio, Fun Machine are back and are set to charm with their latest offering, “Ready For The Fight” following on from their debut EP, More is More (2009) and sophomore release, Desert Creatures (2011).

Known for their eclectic mix of unorthodox punk-pop sounds and honeyed harmonies, Fun Machine’s new work is more indicative than ever of the band’s ability to make relevant, raucous records with a penchant for pop.

Beats were born from kicking car hubcaps and the turning of metal handles, while the piano was recorded incognito on the Australian National University’s Steinway Concert Grand Piano after the band snuck into Llewellyn hall with their recording gear one evening.

Single Review: Emma Louise – “Boy”

By Natalie Salvo
Emma Louise’s musical life has been one vast jungle ever since she released her debut EP, Full Hearts & Empty Rooms. There was the rise of single, “Jungle,” and listeners taking the emotionally stirring, “1000 Sundowns” straight to their hearts and souls. And that’s not to mention the excellent support slots, sold-out headline shows and whispers of a debut album in the works.

New single, “Boy” is the first taster of this forthcoming record. It is a 4:33 slice of pop/folk music that grooves. Sitting somewhere between the pleasant, classic pop of Fleetwood Mac and the interesting layers that peppered Pajama Club’s sound, this pop music makes expert use of keys that dip into water and whiz through space in a fuzzed-out and flashing back-drop that accentuates Louise’s amazing and versatile voice.

Album Review: The Delta Riggs – Talupo Mountain Music Vol.II

By Meghan Player
After the success of their break through track, ‘Counter Revolution’, The Delta Riggs bring their contagious and energetic take on rock & roll to their new EP, ‘Talupo Mountain Music Vol. II’.

Self-produced and cut in a single live session, the band blast through your speakers – from opener, [the aforementioned, ‘Counter Revolution’], to the downright funky, swinging sounds of ‘Used To Be My Baby’.

‘Money’ draws from the mid 60s, early 70s rock and roll that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a Led Zeppelin album. The infectious chorus and relatively simple tempo of the track would make any listener feel the need to get up and dance.

Following track ‘Mary’ blends a smoother, mellow and sexier sound than the previous offerings – demonstrating not only the bands unique style and personality, but their ability to transition and move between amazing sounds and melodies.
