  Saturday 11th July and Sunday 12th July mark the 20th Anniversary of the Abbey Medieval Festival.

The Abbey Medieval Festival offers an experience unlike any other. The colour, pageantry and atmosphere and the authenticity of performers will transport visitors back in time in this unique week of festival activities. Visitors will thrill to the excitement and skill of the Joust, the roar of knights in battle and be entertained by the beautiful Middle-eastern dancers, drama, music and the markets. They may also indulge their medieval taste buds and feast on tantalizing food at the Medieval Banquet or dance their way into the starry night at the Masque Ball.

This year the Jousting Spectacular will be more thrilling and competitive than ever before! The Joust is one of the festivals most popular spectacles. It is now ticketed to guarantee seating or standing space to allow as many people as possible to clearly see the event. There will be three tilts each day to maximise the opportunity for visitors to enjoy this dangerous and yet exciting event.

paniyiri   After being forced to take a raincheck in May due to extreme weather, Paniyiri, Queensland’s signature celebration of all things Greek, took over Musgrave Park and The Greek Club, South Brisbane in a spectacular showcase of Hellenic hospitality on the weekend of July 4 and 5.

If Paniyiri doesn’t make you want to jump on a plane to Athens nothing will! From the moment you arrive your senses are accosted by the tantalising smells of souvlaki and moussaka and other Greek delights, with over thirty food stalls plus a full program of traditional cooking demonstrations in the Greek Club headlined by celebrity chef Vasili Kanidiadis from SBS’s Vasili’s Garden, will uncover the recipes and secrets behind quintessential Greek dishes. Not to mention all that ouzo, most of it very reasonably priced.

The annual GreazeFest celebrates all the cool elements of the 1950s including hot rods, classic cars, rockabilly bands and djs, vintage fashions and energetic jive dancing.

Greenfest 2009 Officially Opened

Friday 5th June 2009 – World Environment Day and the start of Australia’s largest free green festival – Greenfest 2009.

The official opening ceremony saw Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, Jack Thompson, Debby Cox, Summer Rayne Oakes and Nunukul Yuggera stating the importance of our environment and the initiatives and innovations that are being achieved and highlighted at Greenfest.

Today is Towel Day – May 25th – a tribute to Douglas Adams

   Towel Day is an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute by fans to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). The commemoration was first held in 2001, two weeks after his death on May 11, and since then has been extended to an annual event. On this day, fans around the universe proudly carry a towel with them throughout the day. The towel is a reference to Adams’s popular science fiction comedy series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

The madcap wit of this comedic duo have a unique rapport with the public and media alike, with each appearance and interview they provide a rollercoaster of cultural parodies and inventive character creations.

Hale says to expect all the favourites on this tour. “The Rons will be there, Jed and Dave, Billy and Johnny and songs that will tickle your fancy.”

“There will be lots of new material” says Norman Pace, “international poker player, and we will be poking fun at anything that moves….or stays still. Members of the audience will also have a chance to star in the show.”
