Go Between Bridge Concert – June 2010

  On Friday June 25, 2010 Brisbane will be welcoming a new bridge to their river, and it will be welcoming it in style. The Go Between Bridge Concert will be a special show that will see national and local bands take the stage, right on top of the new Go Between Bridge.  It will be Brisbane’s chance to not only celebrate the new link to the streets of their town, but also a rare opportunity to see the likes of Angus & Julia Stone and a Go-Between man himself, Robert Forster, singer-songwriters Josh Pyke and Bob Evans and locals Yves Klein Blue and John Steel Singers play over their river. 

After touring their #1 Gold album “Down The Way” throughout UK, Europe and the US, brother-sister duo Angus & Julia Stone will be boarding a ‘Big Jet Plane’ to return home to Australia and grace Brisbane’s new edition.

It will be their first show in Brisbane since they captivated fans at a SOLD OUT show at The Tivoli earlier this year.  They look to bring their tales of yearning, travel and love onto the romantic river passageway, to show their fans that the adoration is mutual. EXODUS AUSTRALIAN & NEW ZEALAND TOUR October 2010

  At the beginning of their career, EXODUS gained huge notoriety in the international underground scene as a result of the tape trading community. Their dynamic guitar riffing, adrenaline-inducing drum work, and bloodied live shows made all the difference in the band’s mission to take Bay Area Thrash to a worldwide audience.

By 1983, the band line-up included guitarist Rick Hunolt and bassist Rob McKillop and had inspired the likes of Metallica, Testament, Death Angel, and Vio-lence. EXODUS’ debut, the immortal, must-have, undisputed thrash classic Bonded By Blood was released in and a vast tour with Slayer and Venom propelled the band into a household name. Eight albums later, EXODUS still remain at the top of their game, continuing to dominate the charge and showing all in their path what classic metal is about. LITTLE RED “Rock It” Single and Tour Dates – July 2010

Melbourne melodicists Little Red have delivered the first single, ‘Rock It’, from their highly anticipated second album – and the response has been overwhelming. Premiered on Triple J’s breakfast show at the end of last week, the song has been on repeat rotation over recent days and has instantly received an official rotation add from the station.

Taken from the as-yet-untitled sophomore album (due out this September on Liberation Records), the song marks a cleaner, more hi-fi sound that was brought to life in collaboration with producer Scott Horscroft (The Temper Trap, The Presets, Silverchair). ‘Rock It’ is party music of the best kind: warm, infectious, straightforward and unadorned. It is the sound of a band moving even further toward a sound entirely their own, blurring their influences as they do the decades of classic pop they draw from.

Meanwhile, the band has announced a return to the live arena with a series of Rock It single launches around the country throughout July, culminating with a prime slot at the massive Splendour in the Grass festival. The lads have been one of the country’s most loved live acts ever since their emergence of a few years back, and it is standard practice that these shows will be a non-stop party of energy, huge melodies and good times. Fans will also hear the band premiering a selection of brilliant new songs from the forthcoming album. Tickets are sure to go quickly, so don’t hesitate.

The band’s next immediate step is London as they jet off to the UK this weekend to perform at next week’s Musexpo conference in London, as well as performing additional showcases over the following week. Their debut Listen to Little Red, a Top 30 hit at home, also received critical acclaim in the UK and anticipation is certainly high for these return shows.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER
[Photo: Stuart Blythe]		   Over the isle of aggressive emo’s I trek, an uphill struggle lasting only 20 metres. Past a few youngins’, already heavily intoxicated before the headliners even arrive at the scene. It’s about 8.45PM, and a fight breaks out at the venue entrance… Black Dahlia Murder, have certainly attracted some eccentric hoodlums.

There are 5 bands on the bill in total, which may make for long night. Arriving too late to catch Gold Coast born; deathly brutal “Widow the Sea” (debut album coming soon) and most of the next set by Newcastle’s “The Storm Picturesque”, currently on a small Victorian tour. Both groups are relatively adolescent in relation to the depth of both their musical compilations and touring experience, but with a little time, they may just be a couple of names to watch out for…

Black Cab ‘Sexy Polizei’ Tour – July 2010

  Melbourne psych rockers and concept kings, Black Cab undertake their first ever east coast tour to support new single ‘International Son’/’Sexy Polizei’ in mid July. The band’s 2009 album ‘Call Signs’ continues to receive accolades and was recently shortlisted for the 2009 Australian Music Prize. The band have never before played Brisbane and rarely tour so catch them while you can. The new single is due out mid-June with a new album expected later this year.

“Black Cab’s third album confirmed long running suspicions: playing to 400 patrons in an Aussie pub was an ill fit – they should have been playing Warsaw stadiums to 30,000 all along.

MADDESTMAXIMVS: PLANET AND STARS SEQUENCE @ Judith Wright Centre June-July 2010

Artist Shaun Gladwell presents his work, MADDESTMAXIMVS: Planet & Stars Sequence (created as Australia’s contribution to the 2009 Venice Biennale), for two weeks only at the Institute of Modern Art. Influenced by his experiences in Australia’s landscape of the outback, his interest in extreme sports, and Mad Max movies, the work is a suite of videos accompanied by sound, photographic and sculptural works. Roadkill kangaroos are found on the side of highways by a black leather clad motorcyclist and given a ritualistic burial, a figure surfs a vehicle as it moves through desert roads, a masked individual rapidly paints and subsequently erases images of the universe in open arid settings, and a group of figures spin against natural rock formations.
