Metropolis Touring have announced the return of legendary rockers URIAH HEEP to Australia. Considered one of the ‘Big Four’ pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s along with BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE & LED ZEPPELIN – URIAH HEEP still enjoy legendary status.
URIAH HEEP’s unique, progressive, hard sound has made them a mainstay of the rock circuit for four decades. Famed for their accomplished musical talents, diverse song writing and powerful live performances, the band has released some of the most popular and defining music of their genre. With a catalogue of 23 studio albums that includes ‘Demons and Wizards’ (1972), ‘Abominog’ (1982), and their most recent release, 2011’s ‘Into The Wild’ (their highest charting album since the ‘70’s) it’s no surprise that the band has sold over 40 million records worldwide.
Australian audiences in particular have taken URIAH HEEP into their hard-rocking hearts, with the band scoring consecutive charting albums and singles in the country on more than one occasion. Their last triumphant tour in 2011 saw Aussie audiences young and old embrace the rockers in sell out shows for their 40th Anniversary Tour. Their remarkable popularity also spawned the exclusive Australian compilation ‘Downunda’, released to commemorate their 1974 tour. What’s more, in 2003 URIAH HEEP enlisted the vocal talents of none other than Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes on the ‘Relentless’ album, thus cementing their affinity to this country.

URIAH HEEP have toured consistently throughout their 45-year career, performing in over 48 countries to millions of faithful fans, including headline performances at Reading and the prestigious Sweden Rock Festival. In 1987 they became the first major rock act to perform in the Soviet Union, playing to audiences of 185,000 people. Their fan base also includes far-flung countries such as South Korea, Brazil and Germany.
Original member and lead guitarist Mick Box still helms this incredible outfit along with keyboardist Phil Lanzon, vocalist Bernie Shaw, drummer Russell Gilbrook and bassist Davey Rimmer who replaces the late Trevor Boulder who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2011. They remain one of the hardest working bands on the circuit with over 150 shows under their belt in the past year and promise a set-list of some of the highlight picks from their 40 year plus career. In Mick’s words: “’Appy Days!”
