Iconic American psych-folkster Daniel Johnston toured Australia for the first (and possibly only) time earlier this year and, as is his habit, he researched and then invited a local artist to join him on stage as his ‘backing-band’. Honoured, Old Man River took up the challenge and on that tour Australian audiences for the first time heard music from the forthcoming album, simply titled – ‘Trust’. The excitement and reaction was undeniable. Old Man River has returned with something very special.

Now Old Man River embarks on his first headline tour in more than 2 years

Inspired by the reaction to his music from far-flung places, the new album was tracked in Sydney, fleshed out in Tel Aviv and sprinkled with more than a little magic in Mumbai. The finest musicians from Australia, the Middle East and India all contributed to this pop odyssey. The resulting album, ‘Trust’, will be released in mid-2010. Having warmed-up at the East Coast Blues Festival last weekend, some of those musicians will join Old Man River for this tour of very intimate venues to celebrate the release of a new 5-track EP – ‘You’re On My Mind’.

It may be a little known fact to Australian audiences that songs from Old Man River’s 2007 debut album ‘Good Morning’ sat at #1 on the charts in countries as diverse as Japan and Italy, music video’s were filmed in India and Japan and Old Man River toured across every continent on the planet for 2 years. It was always thus with Old Man River. An Australian artist plugged into something much more worldly.
