Birds of Tokyo – Queensland Shows – May 2011 [Gig News]

Having recently been hailed for their killer live performances across the Big Day Out tour, Birds Of Tokyo now announce two Queensland shows for May 2011. The band will play The Tivoli in Brisbane on Wednesday May 11 and the Lake Kawana Community Centre on the Sunshine Coast, Thursday May 12.

Birds of Tokyo need no introduction. In 2010 the band released their chart topping self titled third studio album which is still sitting comfortably in the top 20 eight months after release with sales well surpassed platinum.

The band’s anthemic breakthrough hit from the album, ‘Plans’ has exceeded double platinum and recently polled #4 in Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 (one of the largest music polls in the world). It’s also the band’s first ever top 20 single.

‘Wild At Heart’, the follow up single, is well on its way to replicating the success of ‘Plans’ with the song peaking at #1 on the country’s National Airplay Chart (Jan 17) and currently top 10 on the ARIA Australian singles chart.

At the 2010 ARIA Awards the band not only received six nominations, but walked away with their first ever ARIA for Best Rock Album. Adding to the accolades the band has also been named GQ’s ‘Band of the Year’ and they recently received the publicly voted Rolling Stone’s ‘Readers Choice’ Award. Prior to the upcoming Queensland shows, the band are currently packing their bags and heading over to perform a couple of shows at the Canadian Music Festival next month.
