Following on from the critical acclaim of their debut EP ‘Playing Dead’ last year, Bristol based four-piece The Desert return with the mood-stricken single ‘Gone’, lifted from their forthcoming new EP.
Sounding like a cross between Little Dragon and Portishead, the outfit have given this new material a more dramatic and sentimental tone, which sees them coming to terms with and overcoming loss.
The new single ‘Gone’ stands as zenith of atmosphere the new EP aims to create. With its earthy yet grand production, the single moves the listener through a feeling of desperation, but ultimately comes across with a more positive aura.
Speaking about the new track, the band said, “’Gone’ is about losing something or someone abruptly and how that can make you go a bit crazy. Gina’s voice is quite hoarse in the recording, which helps convey the desperation& frustration. There’s also a kind of excitement in that ‘fuck it’ feeling. The track is overall more positive than negative with each chorus ending ‘but I’ll find somewhere to put it’”.
The Desert will be releasing ‘Gone’ on the 21st September 2018, with their new EP expected early next year. The band will also be planning a series of shows to support the new release, which can be found below.
