Bluejuice @ The Metro Theatre, Sydney
It is hard to summarise the night that was spent watching the glorious men of Bluejuice give it their all at the Metro Theatre for the last time, only because the night was filled with so much substance that I know something will linger past this review and remain with those who witnessed the show.

To start off the night, the relatively fresh band Jody welcomed the crowd with a breezy disposition, drawing a great likeness to the summer-indie image that more developed bands have owned. This kind of familiarity did take away from the experience the band was trying to deliver.

Gold coast Parklands once again played host to the Good Vibrations Festival and all its followers this February. The party had already begun before the gates opened; with crowds of revellers sipping away on their hip flasks and discussing their plans of attack for the day ahead.

With the gates open the party officially kicked off with a cruisy set from the aptly named Cool Calm Collective on the Roots stage. Continuing the relaxed start to the day were Tijuana Cartel on the main stage where a large crowd gathered, in all their costumed glory, to witness a set that evolved from an impressive acoustic flamenco demonstration to a full blown aussie hip-hop act. bluejuice – let the fun begin!

After witnessing the energy of bluejuice playing live at the Valley Fiesta 2008, the decision was made to investigate the band a little further. I mean, these guys packed in the crowd, had them up and jumping with a charismatic energy from the first step on stage to the last blistering note! Awesome…

What was found in our investgations:
Between stage jumps, speaker climbs and a full on stage performances there lies an extremely talented, inventive and most of all,  funny group.

  • “Belonging to the church of the big fish”… classic!
  • Jumping out of planes to make the filmclip for “The Reductionist”… classic!
