Chugg Entertainment goes into partnership with Homebake!

Homebake Music, Film, Comedy & Arts Festival producers IMC and Village Sounds are delighted to confirm that they have teamed up with Chugg Entertainment as co-producers of the annual festival lauding Australian and New Zealand acts. The partnership is effective immediately and will see this new configuration of Australian music industry stalwarts forge forward with the 2012 event, and then ongoing for years to come.

Of this new collaboration, Michael Chugg said, “I am so excited about this. With all the amazing home-grown talent in this country, Homebake has always been at the forefront of celebrating the incredible Australian and New Zealand music on offer. Live Review: Caloundra Music Festival 2012

After a great Saturday at the Caloundra Music Festival I’m ready to sing its praises from the apartment tops and encourage all lovers of funk, soul and blues to join me at this festival again next year for a world class music experience. Memories of the day have morphed into images of a beach side town alive with bright lights, smiling faces of all ages and a sea of brass instruments pumping to a soundtrack of rich eclectic rhythms. This superbly organised festival considers everything and offers so much more than just music – including great activities for kids, conveniently located big screens for watching the football finals and a welcoming atmosphere in a stunning coastal location.

Tour News: Blondie Australian Tour 2012

McManus Entertainment have announced the return to Australia of one of music’s most acclaimed bands Blondie. Boasting one of the most compelling front-women in music Deborah Harry, Blondie have enjoyed a stream of timeless top ten hits bursting with great hooks and brilliant iconic lyrics. Aussie fans can expect a stellar performance from this renowned group.

Blondie’s tour will hit Australia in December. They will play to fans in Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Townsville and Brisbane and will also grace the stage at this year’s Homebake Festival. Joining Blondie for these special shows will be special guests The Stranglers and The Saints. For the Sydney show special guests The Machinations will play to crowds in place of The Saints.

Single Review: The Fearless Vampire Killers – “Mexico”

“Mexico” is the first single from the The Fearless Vampire Killers forthcoming sophomore LP (due 2013) and it’s a cracker.

Energetic, upbeat, uplifting and fun. The track pulls you in with memorably sharp western themed guitar riffs, killer vocals and driving rhythm section. “Mexico” have you up and jumping and wanting more.

Highly recommended!

Interview with Simon Jerrems – Fyah Walk

Fyah Walk will be playing at the brilliant reggae, soul and dub event Island Vibe Festival on Stradbroke Island this October (2012). We caught up with lead singer (and guitarist) Simon Jerrems for a chat…

LMM: So you have a few new members in the band, can you introduce them?

Simon: Yes, on bass is Anando Bharti who is a long-standing player of over 40 years experience and performing with a multitude of bands in and outside Australia. Then Carla Versitano who is our backing vocalist who was the lead for band called The Witness and has also appeared on a host of Australian independent releases, she has great vocal tone and energy. On lead guitar is Tom Kelly, originally from the UK with a background in jazz and reggae…he has a great passion for guitarists like Ernest Ranglin and the early reggae pioneers of the 70s.
 
 
LMM: Your lyrics are always interesting and inspiring, what are you writing about at the moment?

Having made the trip out here for last year’s infamous Counter Revolution festival, Yellowcard are far from strangers to Australia and its fans. This time around, the Californian quintet is touring in support of their new album Southern Air, the band’s best album since 2006’s Lights and Sounds.

Supporting Yellowcard for their East Coast tour were Sydneysiders Heroes for Hire who, after releasing their second album Take One For The Team last year, have taken huge strides in Australia. Their set at The Hi-Fi was no different, getting a great response with their ultra energetic pop punk. By the end of their set it was obvious that there were a number of new fans in attendance.

Live Review: Ingrid Michaelson at Metro Theatre, Sydney – 14th September 2012

On a darkened stage and with little fanfare, a pretty and bespectacled Ingrid Michaelson walked to the mic and proceeded to set the Metro Theatre in Sydney alight with a brilliantly entertaining performance. She did much more than just sing well crafted pop songs, – she entertained and she had the crowd enthralled not just with her wonderful music and sweet voice, but also with her wit, humour and quirky storytelling.

Sometimes singers struggle with attempts to engage the audience with dialogue and hence so many just avoid banter like the plague. Many concert goers would actually prefer to just hear the music. However, at Ingrid’s concert she really captured and held the audiences attention with her story telling – they appeared to follow her every word and were moved by the ebb and flow of her stories. There was a lot of laughter from the audience as a whole throughout the show and yet on other occasions they were quiet when she was more serious, albeit rare. She’s a great communicator and that communication comes across in her songs too.
