* Live Review – Big Day Out – Gold Coast 2013
Review by Lauren Sherritt
The Sunday set for the Gold Coast Big Day Out 2013 dawned hot and sunny as around the state thousands packed themselves into cars, shuttle buses and trains and headed to the Parklands.
There were those who arrived early, queuing eagerly at the gates with tickets in hands and starting the party with top-notch openers like the rocketing-towards-stardom Sydney two piece Toucan and the magnificent DJ Helena, who kick-started the burgeoning crowds’ energy.
Then there were those who waited out the sun to arrive later for the big names on the bill, with Grinspoon’s mid-afternoon efforts pulling the first really big crowd of the day. Hard Act to Follow and Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills had the crowd singing as one and from a distance the moving sea of hands and bodies seemed to swell with excitement under the masterful conducting of the band’s front man Phil Jamieson.

2013 is set to be banner year for Paul Greene, the Aussie Olympian turned professional singer songwriter. The definition of a decent, humble and hard-working guy, Greene has seen more than his fair share of ups and downs, all of them with a guitar in his hand and a song in the making.
‘Bad Luck Lately’ is the third single off his (Best Blues & Roots) Aria Award Nominated album; ‘Behind the Stars’.

No matter what people say, bigger is always better – especially when we’re talking about heavy metal. And heavy metal doesn’t get much bigger than FOZZY.
FOZZY, the band featuring WWE Wrestling Superstar CHRIS JERICHO and Stuck Mojo mastermind RICH ‘The Duke’ WARD will be joining DUFF McKAGAN’S LOADED and DANKO JONES in Sydney only. There is no doubt that FOZZY are one of the most dynamic and kick ass live acts on the scene making this a Sidewave not to be missed!
When names like Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver populate your résumé, you have a lot to live up to on your solo releases. DUFF McKAGAN not only lives up to it, but has cemented his legacy as one of Rock’s most unique figures.
DUFF McKAGAN and his gang have been building a sound full up with earthy ground and pound. Sure there’s an undeniable streak of the platinum level hookery and crookery that took Duff to the very top of the candy mountain and this is nowhere more evident than his third album, ‘The Taking’. They Will Rock You sum it up perfectly enthusing that it “provides the perfect soundtrack for a kicking, dragging, screaming return to the gutter so if you like your rock dark and dirty, this one is for you.”
