The Hi-Fi in Brisbane has filled up early in preparation for the first of the Brisbane sidewaves ahead of the festival on the weekend.
All attention quickly turned to the stage as local band Malakyte launched into their opening track ‘Zero Hour’ and the speed and ferocity of the music roars out over the crowd enticing everyone to bang their heads to their balls-out brand of pure thrash metal.

Searching for Sugarman, the British-Swedish documentary about the life of Sixto Rodriguez has won the 2013 Academy Award for ‘Best Documentary’ in LA today.
As if the inclusion of international heavyweights Blue Oyster Cult, Flamin’ Groovies, Buzzcocks, and Peter Case of The Nerves ain’t enough, the Hoodoo Gurus have gone and selected a whole swag of local acts (starting with The Stems), embracing a huge range of eras and styles so long as it rocks (and rolls). From the green-fuzz of Sydney’s Lime Spiders to the bump and grind of Melbourne’s nefarious The Moodists via the snot and bile of Sydney punks Straight Arrows and on to Melbourne’s two-girl garage queens Super Wild Horses. British India’s much anticipated fourth LP Controller is due for release on March 22. And if this isn’t enough to seriously whet fans’ appetites, the band have also confirmed a national headline tour for April. The extensive tour will take Controller live to both city and regional centres across the country.
