Mudhoney, the Seattle legends of dirty rock’n’roll, certainly seem to love Australia. Even after decades of making the long haul flight southwards they can’t seem to get enough of our country, having become habitual visitors in recent years. They were here in 2011 (playing sideshows around their high billing slot at Meredith Festival’s 21st birthday bash), they returned in 2012 (slotting in shows around their inaugural appearance at Splendour In The Grass and a sold out Melbourne show) and now they’re coming back once more as one of the experienced faces of the stellar 2014 Big Day Out line-up in what will be their eighth trip to Australian shores.

The Rolling Stones

A History in the Whirlwind: The Rolling Stones
By Anthony DeCurtis

When the nascent Rolling Stones began playing gigs around London in 1962, the notion that a rock & roll band would last five years, let alone fifty, was an absurdity. After all, what could possibly be more ephemeral than rock & roll, the latest teenage fad? Besides, other factors made it unlikely that such a momentous occasion would ever come to pass. “I didn’t expect to last until fifty myself, let alone with the Stones,” Keith Richards says with a laugh. “It’s incredible, really. In that sense we’re still living on borrowed time.”

Q&A with Dan Newton of band Galapogos

Galapogos are launching their second album “Feel Or Suffer” at The Zoo, Brisbane on Friday December 6, 2013

:: What track changed your life ::
I think “Sandy” which was performed by John Travolta on the Grease soundtrack describes a lot about the kind of ache I love to hear in any music I listen to, so that’s probably the first song that comes to mind when I think about the concept of having my life changed by music. I was 9 when I first heard it and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Words and Photos by: Ben Hosking – www.hoskingindustries.com.au for Life Music Media

Tonight’s line up at Sydney’s Metro Theatre was nothing if not unique.

Each of the three bands possess highly distinct sonic aesthetics that set them apart not only from one another, but the rest of the current metal scene. It promised to be an interesting night of heavy metal and we’re sure no one left disappointed.
