“For our community of around 200 people there is one general store, one school, no mobile phone range and little access to the internet. But Ikuntji [aka Haasts Bluff, NT] is much more than the town itself – it’s the rocky hills, the red earth, the country of our Dreaming, our grandfathers’ country.” Tjintu Desert Band.
Upon listening to the debut album by Tjintu Desert Band [pronounced Jin-Too] it is evident these five young Aboriginal men from the remote Central Australian NT towns of Ikuntji and Kintore have a connection to their land, its spirits and a transcendent magic that captures the atmosphere and sound of the desert.

Ahead of their upcoming Australian tour Monster Magnet have just named the full line up of local acts who will joining the space rock legends to blow minds across the country this April.
Main support in each city will come from two-piece hell raisers King Of The North. Since exploding onto the Melbourne music scene in early 2012 this guitar/drum duo have had punters and pundits alike raving about their massive sound and killer live shows. Pioneering the 3 from 1 guitar technique (making the sound of 2 guitars plus a bass guitar simultaneously from just one guitar), first timers are often left looking for the extra guitarists amidst the wall of sound. Add to the equation one of the most dynamic and solid drummers around and you have a rock n roll band like no other and one of the country’s most exciting new acts.

Live Review | Placebo @ Palais Theatre, Melbourne – February 27, 2014
Review by Ben Connolly
Photos by Annie Wilson
In the great lottery of the Sidewave venue scramble, Placebo must surely have pulled the short straw. Not that St Kilda’s Palais Theatre is generally anything to be disappointed with – its grungy dilapidation holds a special place in Melbourne’s rock vernacular. But when it comes to a furious set by one of the world’s best emotive post-punk purveyors, those torn leather seats are just woeful.
Seated gigs are sometimes just the pits, with often fickle gig-going punters varying between reckless abandon and a studied aloofness, meaning that on any given night you can find yourself jumping to your heart’s content surrounded by fellow revellers, or having to reign in your exuberance or suffer the fate of a thousand daggers shot your way.
