Interview with Michael Amott of Arch Enemy – Root of All Evil Tour, November 2009

Arch EnemyMichael Amott (MA) of Arch Enemy talks with our Hannah Collins (HC) – Root of All Evil Tour, November 2009.

HC: So let’s get right into it shall we?
The Root of All Evil, I had a listen to the pre-release, and it’s a great compilation album. Why did you guys decide to take songs from the first three albums, Black Earth, Stigmata and Burning Bridges to re-vamp rather than creating new material for the latest release?

MA: Um well, putting it in perspective, the original idea came from the fans really, because the first three records that we made, the ones you just mentioned, were done with another singer. We had another bass player on two of them, so we didn’t have a stable line up on those first three albums, and it was a very different styled singer. But then Angela Joined for the fourth Album and with Sharlee on base and Daniel on drums, it was just a solid thing with me and by brother on Guitars and we started talking heavily about the fourth album, and that line up’s now how people know us. Over the years we talked and released our albums, and you know, well, this is the definitive line up of Arch Enemy, that we have right now, and the very early Albums have kind of dated into obscurity basically.

In what will make for an electrifying performance, another dimension has been added to the recently announced Tim Finn National Anthology Tour with the news that former Split Enz and Crowded House keyboardist/composer/musician Eddie Rayner will join Tim on tour.

Live Review: Cannibal Corpse @ The Hi-Fi, Brisbane 13 September 2009

Review by: Jamie Cook

corpse_1_11_resizeOnce upon a time, Death Metal bands that toured this great country we call Australia was rarer than rocking horse shit. However, over the past four or so years, there have been more of these groups hit our shores than illegal boat people. It was that time once again for Metal Heads to hold onto their faces, as the legendary Cannibal Corpse was in town to rip it off.

Apologies go out to the local lads from Brazen Bull and Defamer for missing their set, as other commitments caused me to arrive that extra bit late.

Interview: Philadelphia Grand Jury’s Simon Berkfinger talks to Kim on all things Philly Jays – 14 September 2009

Kim from LifeMusicMedia (LMM) talks to Simon Berkfinger from Philadelphia Grand Jury – Monday 14 September 2009.
philadelphiagrandjuryLMM – Hi Simon, I’m just looking at your tour schedule for the next few months, supporting Grinspoon as well as touring for your new cd “Hope is for Hopers” – you’ve got a lot coming up, are you looking forward to all the travelling?

SimonWell, it’s not really travelling, it’s more like – well you know the drill, running from town to town, sleeping in a bed for four hours and then getting up and going to the next town, but yeah I enjoy it. I like touring more than staying at home and twiddling my thumbs.

LMM – The tour is for your latest release CD, can you tell me a bit about the album?
SimonWell, what do you want to know?

Sunday Selection: Grand Atlantic : 6 September 2009

LifeMusicMedia Sunday Selection is your weekly view to Australian Artists

Grand Atlantic   With earth shaking guitar riffs that give way to an addictive pop melody saturation, ‘She’s A Dreamer’, the first release from Grand Atlantic’s follow up to their acclaimed debut, marks the end of a productive 2008 and demonstrates a band set to take 2009 by force. The enthralling and mysterious new album, titled ‘How We Survive’, was mixed by Magoo (Midnight Oil, Powderfinger, Regurgitator, An Horse) and was mastered in Nashville and released on Laughing Outlaw Records in June 2009.

Their debut EP ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ saw Grand Atlantic soar into Australia’s national consciousness. Released in November ’06, ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ created a storm of approval locally and overseas. uncharTED

Q: How did Felinedown’s involvement in uncharTED begin?

Brodie-Ann: Firstly, we uploaded some songs and that’s how it started – I think we made it into the Top 30 just after putting our songs up, and we were a really new band, so we were very excited. Also, when they were looking for bands for Live & Local, we were really keen to be involved and play among other really good local acts in front of a fresh audience – people who’ve never seen us play before.

Q: How did Felinedown meet and form?

B-A: I had a few songs written with my writing partner Kit [Sivyer, Felinedown’s ex-bassist], and before that I was in theatre and burlesque. We got Glen [Gattenhof], the guitarist,

News: Patrick Wolf (UK) ‘The Bachelor’ Australian Tour – December 2009

The infamous Patrick Wolf returns to our shores, to celebrate the release of his latest album, The Bachelor.

Visceral, Impulsive, Antagonistic and Unique; the list of superlatives and adjectives for this young man and his music go on ad infinitum. Never one to conform to artistic nor industry status quo, young Master Wolf could rightly claim pole position at the vanguard of avant-garde pop. His wonderfully wilful compositions and forays into the glamorous aesthetic of leather, chains, glitter and feathers only exalt the kind of compelling self- awareness we find so irresistible.

Cannibal Corpse 2009 Australian and NZ Tour – September 2009

Cannibal Corpse   What more can be said, in this Year Of The Corpse 2009, that hasn’t already been whispered, grunted or screamed about the almighty Cannibal? They’ve smashed—nay, hammer smashed—every boundary set before them, defied every censor set upon them, and besmirched every country that would have them. After two decades of unending death metal torment, the band’s calling cards are many: the depraved lyrics, the blinding technical prowess, the dominating stage presence, the legions of dedicated fans, the million and a half albums sold.

Cannibal Corpse are slashing their way back to Australia and New Zealand to skewer us as all from ear to ear in support of their new album “Evisceration Plague”!

Interview: Hot Little Hands lead singer Tim Harvey chats with Elize Strydom about touring, singing Japanese…

Hot Little Hands   Interview: Elize Strydom

Hot Little Hands are hard to pigeon-hole, much to lead singer Tim Harvey’s delight. Take a little old soul, a generous helping of electro, four part harmonies and you’ve got…concrete/jungle/samba? Well, they are the genres the band checks on their Myspace page, anyway. Perhaps you’ll just have to see ‘em live and draw your own conclusions.

Life Music Media (LMM): You’re fresh from a tour of New Zealand. How did it go?

Tim Harvey (TH): It was amazing. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much. The countryside is mind blowing and the people are gorgeous and so friendly. We played about seven shows. We were kind of freaked out because the first night we got there we played a party and the band that went on before us, when they finished a song, nothing would happen, no one would clap. It was really weird! But when we got on the claps started filtering through.
