Canadian post hardcore pioneers, Silverstein have sold over 1 million records in their 15 year career, and this year their breakthrough album Discovering The Waterfront turns 10! The album gave the band their first Top 40 chart debut and brought them a whole new audience via their faster, more energetic songs.
Silverstein lead the rise of aggressive, melodic punk in the early 2000’s and cultivated a sound and work ethic that set them apart from their peers. With 6 albums, countless EP’s, nearly 2000 shows and a million albums under their belts, they still strive to be better with each passing year.

Review by Sibel Kutlucan
Short Songs by Silverstein is anything but boring.
The 22 track album, which runs for just under 20 minutes, is composed of songs and punk covers which all fall under the 90 second mark. Whilst unique and upbeat, it can seem a bit fanatical and fervent at times and often it felt like a few of the songs were too abrupt (which is understandable when you try to keep a song under the minute and a half mark). Warning, the album is not for the faint hearted, and it isn’t something you want to listen to when you want to kick back and relax.
Short Songs is definitely short, fast and louder than anything Silverstein have produced in their previous five albums and the Canadian boys definitely have taken a unique risk with a number of elements. Short Songs features guest vocals from Tim Mcllrath (Rise Against), Chris Hannah (Propagandhi) and Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Prada), just to name a few.

As promised, Soundwave returns in ’09, and to paraphrase Southpark, it is bigger, longer and uncut!
Topped by one of this generation’s most talented and uncompromising bands in NINE INCH NAILS, the festival also sees a long overdue return of grunge titans ALICE IN CHAINS and juvenile delinquents The BLOODHOUND GANG.
Never one to rest on there laurels, they’ve announced the second round of artists for Soundwave 09!
So without further ado… joining the already massive cast will be the powerful live force that is the Dillinger Escape Plan, Florida Metalcore titans Underoath, the sky-high hooks of Forever The Sickest Kids, pop rock balladeers Jack’s Mannequin and the unrelenting rhythms of All That Remains.
As always, there is also plenty to offer the fans of punk, metal and the heavier end of the alternative spectrum, as well as signing tents giving artists the opportunity to meet fans, market stalls and the odd bit of crappy installation art for you to laugh at.
