Tour News : Ben Ottewell – Solo Acoustic Tour Australia November 2018


Ben Ottewell, singer and guitarist of English indie band Gomez, has announced he will be returning to Australia for his fourth solo tour of Australia in November.

Ben will play dates in Brisbane and Hobart plus multiple dates in Sydney and Melbourne. All dates are on sale now.

UK indie rock stalwarts Gomez have always been a study in human Tetris when it came to its live shows. With three singers and guitarists, keys, bass and drums (as well as a revolving array of touring musos), their stage show was a beautiful cacophonic mess.

Starkly contrasting with this is the sparse stage at the Northcote Social Club awaiting Ben Ottewell as he paraded his second solo effort since the indefinite hiatus of his band. Armed with just a couple of Gibson acoustics, a ripping yarn or two, and that booming voice, Ottewell proved that even stripped back, his music holds some sway.

Love Police Touring have announced the return of UK’s, Ben Ottewell for a national Australian tour throughout October/November with special guest from LA, Buddy.

As a singer and lead guitarist in rock band Gomez, Ben Ottewell is well known for his unmistakable voice and talent for blistering and inspired guitar work. Rolling Stone declared, “Gomez’s not-so- secret weapon is Ben Ottewell.” And as GQ Magazine once wrote and anyone listening can attest, “[his] voice is not of this world.”

Album Review | Ben Ottewell – Shapes and Shadows

It has apparently been five years in the making, but Gomez frontman Ben Ottewell has finally released his debut solo album Shapes and Shadows. Gomez fans need not worry though, this release shouldn’t be seen as a departure from Ottewell’s main project but instead as an expansion on it. Easily the most recognizable vocalist from the English indie rockers, his unique voice remains the focus here. Ottewell’s vocals are perfect for this classic acoustic soft rock, bordering on folk at times, style. Distinctive and naturally emotional, his voice is a little gritty and rough around the edges but mournful and somber at just the right moments.
