Do it yourself arts and events organisation, Small Lakes are throwing one hell of a launch party on Saturday, November 26, 2011– with the help of local luminaries Oh Ye Denver Birds, Hunz and Restream. The launch party will be a music and visual art extravaganza held at Contortionist Studios, an exciting new warehouse space that’s emerged in Brisbane’s Woolloongabba in recent months.

Oh Ye Denver Birds will be bringing their dreamy popscapes and luscious vocals to the stage. Meanwhile, Hunz will be presenting a special stripped-back ‘reformatted’ performance, involving lots of looping and layering. Joining them will be Restream, a.k.a Andrew White, better known as the bass player of Mr. Maps and head honcho at Lofly Recordings, who will be showing off his handcrafted experimental beats and soundscapes. The Studio will also be home to visual and projection art from local Brisbane artists for the night.

Small Lakes is a not-for-profit organisation that offers event promotion and financial support to artists and creatives looking to host out-of-the-ordinary events. Small Lakes (along with Guerrilla Gigs and Lofly) played host to the Mr Maps Tennis Party earlier this year. It was wonderfully fun afternoon gig at New Farm tennis court spent with instrumental aficionados, Mr MapsMr Maps; arguably one of the most interesting and talked about events of the year.
Small Lakes still have a few tricks up their sleeve for the launch party that they’re yet to announce but one thing’s for sure – it’s going to be one hell of an audio-visual feast.
