PYRAMID is back in 2010 & bigger than ever!!!

  The colossal PYRAMID ROCK FESTIVAL is returning to Phillip Island for its seventh year in succession! Running from Wednesday 29 December 2010 until Saturday 1 January 2011, we’re ready to announce that this years Pyramid Rock Festival is going to be bigger and better than ever!

After last years’ apocalyptic electrical storm there was a lot of speculation that PYRAMID ROCK FESTIVAL wouldn’t return to ring in the 2011 New Year. However, after the electrifying, but untimely display by Mother Nature described as a “once in a hundred year storm”, festival organisers have bunkered down to ensure that Pyramid 2010 has the capacity to deal with any out of the ordinary event.

Booking acts for Pyramid began early this year with artists from all over the globe showing their support for the festival, ensuring that this year Pyramid will undoubtedly be hosting its best line up to date with the first round of acts revealed on August 26.

New staging and site layout are some of the obvious changes that have been made since last year and Pyramid organisers can assure patrons that everything imaginable has been reviewed, revised and reinvented to ensure that we’re safe, sound and ready to continue partying at Pyramid Rock until at least 2109!

Pyramid organisers will also be digging into their own pockets in order to give back to their loyal patrons. Not only will the festival deliver its biggest ever line up, but in an unprecedented move, all patrons who attended Pyramid 2009 will receive discounted entry and priority purchase to this year’s Pyramid Rock Festival! Who is playing I hear you ask??

N*E*R*D, fronted by world-renowned producers/musicians/song writers/singers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, will be tearing up the Pyramid stage come New Year’s Eve. With a huge back catalogue of hits and their fourth album, Nothing, set for release next month, everyone will want to be front of stage at Phillip Island screaming the lyrics “You, can’t be me I’m a Rock Star” when the clock strikes 12.

Definitely one of Australia’s biggest success stories of late, THE TEMPER TRAP, who were deemed the “must see” artist at this year’s Lollapalooza festival, will be heading back home to feature at this year’s Pyramid Rock. The Melbourne alternative rockers have wowed audiences worldwide with their atmospheric sounds and catchy hooks. Though only having been together a short time, the boys have achieved more than most bands would dream of over a 20 year career, selling out shows around the globe and headlining some of the world’s most prestigious festivals. Love Lost and Sweet Disposition have become some of the most played and loved songs in the past year and the bands live show can only be sure to leave you with a huge Temper Trap crush.

Legendary 90s hip-hop heavy weights ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT will also be heading to Australia for the first time in three years. Picture yourself listening to the rap collective who fuse soul, blues, and hip-hop, on a balmy December’s evening, with the ocean crashing below you. With their live performance described as a “Celebration” of life what better way to begin the 2010 wind down?

Canadian electro-funk duo CHROMEO will also be bringing their hits to Phillip Island this New Year’s Eve. The synth-funk ambassadors have just released their 3rd album Business Casual and you’ve undoubtedly danced around to the first single Don’t Turn the Lights On. Well start your warm-up stretches because the self-confessed “only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture” will have you performing some Fancy Footwork and laughing til your sides hurt as they give you their very unique Bonafied Lovin’.

Festival favourite, XAVIER RUDD will achieve a Pyramid hat-trick and thrill punters with his laid-back eclectic mix of folk, reggae, funk and blues tunes. The talented multi-instrumentalist, who was also voted 2007’s “Sexiest Vegetarian”, will be lighting up the stage with a mix of wholesome socially aware tracks from his six studio albums. Make sure you get in early to secure your spot of grass in front of the stage.

Home grown Oz-rock heroes GYROSCOPE have been flat out in the last few months with two national tours to launch their new album Cohesion, the filming of video clips, and a heap of air-play around the country. How do they top this? By jumping on board the Pyramid bill of course! With their high energy live performance this band is one not to be missed.

English indie lads MYSTERY JETS, are grabbing their synthesiser-fuelled perfect pop tunes and jumping on the Pyramid Rock bandwagon. The London boys have just released their 2nd album Serotonin, and you’ve undoubtedly heard them teaming up with The Count and Sinden for the super fun summer single After Dark. If the reviews from last time are anything to go by, their live show and stylish stage presence is sure to amaze festival goers.

Melbourne’s favourite rock and roll kids LITTLE RED will be road tripping down to Phillip Island this December to “Rock It til the break of day” on the main stage. Catch their spectacular all-singing all-dancing live show and watch them rock it to the early morn. Expect to be singing along to all your favourite super catchy tracks from the last few years.

Danish electro producer/ multi-instrumentalist TRENTEMOLLER will be performing LIVE at this year’s Pyramid Rock Festival. Famous for his exquisite, tight live performance and legendary remixes; he will have you so transfixed with dancing that you will be oblivious to everyone around you and the gorgeous Phillip Island surroundings!

The multi-talented producer, writer, composer and song writer, LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION will provide the perfect soundtrack to the crashing waves below the stage with his chilled out classic surf-pop tunes. With the release of his album Life Is Sweet! Nice to Meet You earlier in 2010, a collection of epic pop tracks, this 24 year old is an act not to be missed.

Melbourne’s very own Psychedelic indie-electro kids MIAMI HORROR will continue the party with their teeth-cutting live performance. Following the release of their first album Illumination, the four futuristic disco lads will have you bouncing around til your feet hurt with their summer-bound party jams.

American indie rockers BUILT TO SPILL are another legendary band heading to Phillip Island to celebrate the New Year. More than 17 years since the release of their first album Ultimate Alternative Wavers, front man Doug Martsch and his band mates will be rocking out on the main stage at Pyramid with their catchy guitar hooks and unique vocals, following a run of shows in the US and Canada.

Swedish indie rockers, SHOUT OUT LOUDS, will also be bringing their lush summery sounds to coastal Victoria this December. With the release of their third album Work earlier this year, and warm up shows in America and Europe, the Stockholm five-piece are sure to be a highlight at this year’s Festival.

Pyramid are also delighted to be bringing you the next big thing; TINIE TEMPAH. The English rapper from South London will be tearing up the stage at Phillip Island. With his first single Pass Out dominating the top of the English charts; he is definitely a must-see performer. Described by the Telegraph as “a London rapper with sharp diction, bright ideas and compelling electro-jungle sound” You’ll be kicking yourself if you miss him.

Irreverent Welsh rockers FUTURE OF THE LEFT will be brutalising the Pyramid Rock stage for the first time in 2010! Formed from the ashes of Welsh powerhouses Jarcrew and Mclusky, Future Of The Left are Australian festival favourites. With a live show that is both highly volatile and outrageously fun they are set to unleash their rock fury and Phillip Island may never be the same again!

Canadian indie-rockers BORN RUFFIANS will be jumping on the Pyramid stage for their first Australian shows in 2 years. With their high energy live shows and catchy upbeat songs their set is sure to deliver nothing short of amazing.

Melbourne born, New Zealand raised LIAM FINN is the offspring of legendary Crowded House front man Neil Finn; and musical genius definitely seems to run in the family, he has powered out of his father’s shadow, and made a name for himself as a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer/song writer. Liam is heading to Phillip Island to share his catchy memorable pop tunes. Make sure you witness his set as he performs above the waves.

The good folk at Pyramid have also worked tirelessly to secure Australian super group BASEMENT BIRDS. The very talents Kevin Mitchell from Jebediah, also known on certain days as alias Bob Evans, will be joined on stage by Josh Pyke, Eskimo Joe’s Kav Temperley and Steve Parkin. With catch tunes like Waiting for You and Not the One these Perth boys are a definite band to mark in your Pyramid schedule.

They may look like an odd mix of guys but PHILADELPHIA GRAND JURY sure know how to rock! The Philly Jays, as they are fondly known amongst festival goers, have earned themselves quite the reputation; being labelled “a band you must see before you die” amongst critics. Make sure you reserve your spot at the front of the stage to catch the Sydney three-piece; their explosive live performance definitely lives up to the hype!

After wowing audiences around the world Melbourne-born, London-based duo
GYPSY & THE CAT will be joining this year’s Pyramid Rock lineup. Set to be the next local home grown international success story, Gypsy & The Cat have toured with The Strokes and Foals and will bring their perfect summer sunshine pop to perfection that is the Phillip Island coastline.

Nineties Perth legends JEBEDIAH, who have been on hiatus for far too many years, are coming out of hiding and onto the Pyramid line-up! Witnessing Kevin, Vanessa and Chris rock the stage is sure to be one of your highlights of 2010 as they play hits like Leaving Home, Animal, Harpoon, Jerks of Attention, Teflon and perhaps even some newbies from their rumoured new album- the first in more than six years.

Home grown nineties garage rock legends TUMBLEWEED will also be tearing up the Pyramid stage with their grunge anthems. They opened for Nirvana back in the day and recently rocked the Homebake main stage. Dig your flannel shirt and converse high-tops out of the wardrobe and move to the front of the crowd.

You’ve most likely heard URTHBOY’s stand out track We Get Around on radio stations around the country, a track so impressive it was short listed for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. You probably also recognise him as one of the main contributors to Aussie hip-hop heavy weights The Herd. Make sure you check him out live, his live performance is sure to be off the chain.

Melbourne folk pop minstrels OH MERCY will be gracing the Pyramid stage for the first time. Be prepared to be charmed by lead vocalist Alexander Gow as he flirts with your emotions and navigates his canon of original songs. Lie back and dream of the the golden eras of songwriting when Dylan was king and The Go-Betweens and Triffids ruled the local airwaves.

Described by Blunt Magazine as “A boisterous pop rock combo from Brissyland reviving the spirit of the grunge era” VIOLENT SOHO are a band not to be missed! With their super rocking single Jesus Stole my Girlfriend being given an absolute flogging on radio and rave reviews from their live shows, this is one band you absolutely must see in the flesh.

Happy go-lucky Brisbane 6-piece, THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS, will entertain you with their cute backyard summer pop melodies. The triple j sweethearts are sure to brighten your day as they take to the Pyramid stage to perform well known hits Masochist, Rainbow Kraut and Overpass, leaving you feeling warm and tingly inside.

Hailing from the inner western suburbs of Sydney, hip-hop duo HORRORSHOW are heading down to Phillip Island to make you bounce around in the build up to NYE. With the recent release of their debut album Inside Story, and their growing fan base, make sure you check these boys out… come 2011 they may well be your new favourite Aussie hip-hop band.

Adelaide quartet, LOWRIDER are also jumping in the car to spend their New Years Eve at the picturesque Pyramid Rock Festival. Prepare to enter a soul, funk, hip-hop trance when the boys, who have forged a reputation as one of the most mesmerising live acts around, take to the stage to perform hits like Here We Go, Be Bad and Friends.

Sydney hip-hop duo SPIT SYNDICATE will also be bringing their beats, verses and rapping skills to the stage. After touring overseas, a scheduled short break and the release of a new album, the pair have perfected their sound, and are sure to inspire audiences with their vivid-storytelling through rhyme and extraordinarily high-energy live show.

Queensland indie pop collective HUNGRY KIDS OF HUNGARY will be trading the sunshine state for Phillip Island this New Years eve. Joining the already epic line-up they will help wind-down 2010 with their feel good summer hits that combine rock, pop and soul, their set will be the perfect soundtrack to your Pyramid experience.

Rounding up the Pyramid first announcement is Texan chill wave band NEON INDIAN, who will join the jam-packed stellar line up. Alan Palomo, the son of a former Mexican pop-star, will be joined onstage by his live band- all international music festival veterans, to bring all the Pyramid punters the best synth-pop anthems of the summer.

Festival organisers have worked tirelessly around the clock since 2010 began to bring punters the strongest, star-studded line up to date; cementing Phillip Island as the only place to be this New Year’s Eve as the countdown begins.

Featuring three spectacular days of music, sea, surf and on-site camping for thousands of Australia’s music lovers, in 2010 Pyramid Rock Festival will continue to offer early-bird camping tickets for primo camping possies, ample shower and toilet facilities, a wide variety of market stalls, an international food village that will cater to every taste and the ever-popular shuttle bus services to local surf beaches.
