Take Five With… Carol Burns

The Playhouse at QPAC is about to play host to a sizzling production of the Tennessee Williams’ classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The Queensland Theatre Company / Black Swan State Theatre Company co-production has gathered an impressive ensemble to bring this tormented, dysfunctional Mississippi family to life.

In the role of family matriarch Big Mama is Carol Burns, a founding member of the QTC whose acting resume ranges from multiple Matilda Award winner to Cult TV icon (Frankie Doyle in Prisoner). Burns’ passion for theatre is evident, and as the host of the QTC Night with the Actors sessions she has worked to open the dialogue between artists and audience.

Taking time out from rehearsal to further that dialogue, Burns caught up with Life Music Media.

The Butterfly Effect ’10 YEARS TOUR’ – October 2011

Australian rock heavyweights ‘The Butterfly Effect’ celebrate their tenth anniversary this year.

It’s hard to believe a decade has passed since the quartet first hit the airwaves with “The Cell’ and ‘Take It Away’ from their top selling self titled debut EP in 2001. The EP was well supported by Triple J, which led to wider recognition for the band nationwide.

Grinspoon to play The Ekka, Friday 12th August 2011

Triple M Concert Series presents Grinspoon! The band’s history speaks for itself. After landing on a line-up that would continue through to this day, Grinspoon’s star rose fast after claiming triple j’s inaugural Unearthed competition in 1995. Two EPs paved the way for their double Platinum 1997 smash-hit debut, Guide To Better Living. Two years on came the Platinumselling Easy, and in 2002 their Top 2 album New Detention garnered four ARIA Award nominations for the band and their production team. An ARIA was in their grasp soon after, with 2004’s Top 5 Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills picking up Rock Album of the Year.

Bogan Bingo at Sit Down Comedy Club – now until 31st August 2011

  Go Bogan? – Get Bingo.

Sometimes the best way to bring the team together is to let your ‘inner bogan’ shine. Or if you just want to laugh at two disillusioned guys who think they are rock stars calling out bingo for a living then they may make you feel pretty good too.

Since Bogan Bingo featured on Getaway and Australia’s Got Talent (and somehow featured nicely on A Current Affair) the world’s biggest bingo ‘supergroup’ Bogan Bingo is available nationwide. The show is the perfect mix of music, comedy and crowd interaction that has traditional bingo buffs turning in their graves.

If you like the idea of your friends, punters or colleagues making a fool of themselves as they play air guitar to “Sweet Child Of Mine”, Bogan Bingo may just be the event for you. You’ll find yourself rocking out to all your favourite old school rock songs as you join in the altered version of all the traditional Bingo calls that these guys have created to get you in touch with your inner rock child!

More than your usual trivia night or Karaoke show, the evening includes air guitar competitions, fashion parades, jokes and tunes that rhyme with all the numbers and take you back to the days of bad hair, tragic fashion and great rock and roll.

Each two man show has one wanna-be rock star host, and one misfit DJ, that work together to take everyone on a journey of self discovery that eventually, has the crowd becoming the stars of the show.

Our team is professional and experienced and has run small shows in boardrooms for clients like Tennis Australia, Rip Curl, NAB, to larger venues of over 800 on the P&O Comedy Cruise. It’s is a proven formula that works. And one that will definitely get everyone talking and sharing photos the next day at the office – which may never be the same again!

Bogan Bingo
Sit Down Comedy Club at The Paddington Tavern
Every Wednesday through July and August
Tickets $12.00 plus booking fees
Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm

EP Review | The Ivys – In The Company Of Wolves

By Chantelle Sievers
The Ivys have set the bar high for themselves, with a reputation for amazing live shows, supporting big names like Keane, and releasing a well received debut EP. Their long-awaited new EP, “In The Company Of Wolves” demonstrates that they still have plenty to offer.

This is a solid collection of new tracks with a more complex and mature sound. Luke Hannaford’s voice soars through each song. There are plenty of riffs not thrown in but cleverly worked in, so no track gets dull at all.
