Parkour, Brisbane Style – Track & Field #2

  Brisbane’s newest and arguably most exciting boutique music event – Track & Field – is back with a second event to be held at The Arena, Friday November 25.

Once again presented by music companies Amplifire and Mucho-Bravado, the event features another star-swollen line-up of Australian indie talent. It includes Gold Coast punk-rockers Bleeding Knees Club, a single launch appearance by Sydney

psychedelic heroes Deep Sea Arcade, Brisbane party-starters Velociraptor and the rapidly emerging locals Gung Ho. Additionally there will be DJ sets from indie-darlings Little Scout, party stimulants Naysayer and Gilsun and local radio duo Unnecessary Knowledge DJs. Dan Sultan to rock the Hi-Fi, Brisbane – Friday 9th December 2011

  Dan Sultan brings the band back to Brisbane by popular demand. The band’s come a long way since their pumping sell-out Brisbane shows way back in May 2010. In that time dynamic front man Dan Sultan went on to win “ARIA Male Artist of the Year” whilst the band’s album Get Out While You Can picked up an ARIA gong for “Best Blues & Roots Album”. Notably Dan Sultan and his musical partner Scott Wilson were nominated for the highly prestigious and coveted APRA Breakthrough Songwriters of the Year 2011.

Kobra Kai ‘Mind on the Ceiling’ Tour – Nov/Dec 2011

  Since hitting the stage at Parklife 2007 as winners of a triple J unearthed competition, the Kobra Kai have gone on to slots at The Big Day Out, Future Music Festival, Space Ibiza, Stereosonic and Creamfields (2011). Mark Ronson personally ranked them in his top 10 for the 2009 The Lab competition and their list of international supports includes Roni Size & Dynamite MC, Killa Kella, DJ Marky & Stamina, Concord Dawn, High Contrast, Andy C and most recently, Skrillex (last April).

The band was formed in 1990 by Geoff Barrow though soon joined by Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley. PORTISHEAD signed to Go! Beat Records and their first album, ‘Dummy’, was released on August 22, 1994. “Numb”,”Glory Box” and “Sour Times” were released as singles and the album went on to win the Mercury Music Prize in 1995.

  The upcoming ‘Harvest’ music and arts festival (taking place in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in November), today unveils new artists joining the already stellar line-up of in Portishead, The National, The Flaming Lips, Bright Eyes, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Holy Fuck, The Family Stone, Mercury Rev, Death In Vegas, The Walkmen, Dappled Cities, PVT, This Town Needs Guns, The Holidays, Phosphorescent, Foxy Shazam, and Kormac’s Big Band.

Playing their first Australian shows in three years are experimental New Yorkers TV ON THE RADIO who meld post-punk, soul and elements of psychedelic free jazz to incredible effect. With their new album, Nine Types of Light, released earlier this year, the band are making headlines and wowing fans all over again. Something they’d be used to following the flurry of acclaim they received when their previous release, 2008’s Dear Science was named album of the year by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Spin Magazine, MTV, Pitchfork Media’s reader’s poll, and The Village Voice Pazz and Jop critic’s poll!
