Into its fourth year on the live music calendar, THE JD SET (www.facebook.com/thejdsetau), is one of the most anticipated events around the country with shows over the past two years in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Whyalla, Busselton, Townsville as well as last year’s final, and spectacular, show with The Living End on Rottnest Island.
Last year’s inaugural JD Summer Set with Franz Ferdinand in Byron Bay started a trend that the folk at Jack Daniel’s are intending to maintain in 2011 and beyond with what is sure to be THE summer’s gig road trip and one with a guaranteed Electric Feel courtesy of MGMT! The JD Summer Set is not just another festival side-show – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get your mates together and get outta town for a full day of sun, sand, friends and music! Doors open at 6.00pm with an outdoor BBQ and DJs so there’s no reason not to pack up and head to Byron. Support for the headliner on the night will come from Perth-based psychedelic Rock band Pond, 75% of whose members just happen to be from chart-topping Tame Impala!
Breaking onto the global scene out of Brooklyn, New York back in 2007, in just a few short years MGMT have firmly established themselves as one of the planet’s most sought-after, captivating and innovative bands. Still riding an ever-growing global wave of pandemonium since their sophomore album release Congratulations earlier last year, MGMT are heading to the most Eastern point of our fair country to play at the spectacular Beach Hotel on the foreshore of NSW’s surfing mecca.
Comprising the musical talents of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, MGMT’s debut album Oracular Spectacular in 2008 spawned a string of chart-topping hits including the likes of Kids, Electric Feel and Time To Pretend – all of which quickly became anthems and forged the soundtrack for an entire generation of music lovers worldwide.
This will be the second time MGMT have played a show in Byron Bay (Splendour in the Grass, 2009), and the band said “MGMT couldn’t think of a better place to play our first show of 2011 in Australia than Byron Bay. It’s a beautiful part of the country, we have strong memories from our last visit and are excited to play an intimate show to begin our time down under.”
