Josh Pyke Variations Tour
With Special Guests Gin Wigmore and Fergus Brown

Josh Pyke   In October 2009, multiple ARIA winning singer/ songwriter Josh Pyke will embark on what is his shortest, yet most ambitious tour to date. Four huge shows, in VIC, NSW, WA and QLD.

A regular road warrior, Josh has carved a well-worn groove around the country and gathered fans in small country towns and large cities over the past few years. All of his past tours have sold out weeks in advance and he has become a solid favourite on the live circuit among music lovers.

These four, one-off, city shows will be the largest venue’s he has headlined in his career, and Josh will be calling on fans to make their way to the big smoke to see him this time.

The John Steel Singers Release New Single ‘Masochist’ and Tour in Oct-Nov 2009

THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘MASOCHIST’ IN OCTOBER 2009
DEBUT ALBUM ‘TANGALOOMA’ TO FOLLOW EARLY 2010

The collision of art-rock, classic pop and indie has never sounded as lush as it does on ‘Masochist’, the first single lifted from Brisbane six piece band The John Steel Singers‘ forthcoming debut album.

Recorded under the guidance of producer, mentor and fellow Queenslander Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens, new single ‘Masochist’ sees The John Steel Singers blend rich vocal harmonies and horns to create a woozy, psychedelic soundtrack for the lyrics of writer Scott Bromiley. ‘Masochist’ has The John Steel Singers apply what is becoming their trademarked psychedelic, observation of a disfunctional relationship; the story here of a man who can’t apply himself to love. The band keep things upbeat though, moving between Beatles’eque horn arrangements and orchestral pomp. It’s a fluid, appealing sound.

Live Review: Kreator + Mortal Sin @ The Metro Theatre, Sydney 24 September 2009

Kreator @ The Metro Theatre, Sydney 24 September 2009
KreatorOnly having one support act seems a trifle insufficient for a band of Kreator’s standing – insulting even – but that’s what confronts us Thursday night at the Metro Theatre. Still, it looks to be a promising evening. I have never, in fact, seen such a huge line to get into the Metro before, and that’s always a good sign as it suggests that the opening band is worth giving a shit about. That honour goes to Sydney’s Mortal Sin, a band that have been kicking around for nearly as long as Kreator. They do themselves proud. Though, unfortunately, by the time we get past the line and into the venue we’ve missed half their set – and of the half we do see most of it is taken up by that marvel of the rock n’ roll genre, the thrash metal ballad.

Grinspoon + Philadelphia Grand Jury + Bridgemary Kiss @ The Hi-Fi Brisbane 19 September 2009

Review by: Hannah Collins

Featuring an Aussie band that’s been a part of my life for a good part of the last 15 years, I headed to Brisbane’s Hi-Fi on Saturday with a smile on my face, and recollections of all the fun had listening to old Grinspoon albums as a teen! Taking Australian audiences by the hand, the Grinners boys are out n about, representing the release of their latest album, Six minutes to midnight, for the Takes one Album launch tour.

Live Review: Yeo & The Fresh Goods, Tin Can Radio, Hunz @ Club 299, 19 September 2009

Yeo & The Fresh Goods, Tin Can Radio, Hunz @ Club 299, 19.09.2009
By Denis Semchenko

The music played through 299’s PA is positively deafening on all of the venue’s three levels, while the live sound is only marginally subtler – an obstacle not even helped by my trusty earplugs – however the punishing decibels do little to detract me and fellow music lovers from appreciating tonight’s local talent trifecta. Having recently shared his magic with the Big Sound showcase attendees, raved-about Brissie moodytronica maestro Hunz leads his powerhouse rhythm section (featuring drums prodigy Richie Young) into another riveting performance. A passionate frontman as well as a ridiculously talented singer, songwriter and sonic architect, the erstwhile Hans Van Vliet is a familiar welcome sight as he attacks both his mic and modified synth, every syllable, note and move soaked with emotion and sheer intensity. Several choice tracks from acclaimed albums When Victims Fight and this year’s marvellous Thoughts That Move get an airing, Long Road, Soon, Soon and You Said Hello all packing wistful keyboard arrangements and humungous hooks. During the second half of the show, a laptop glitch prompts the digi-soul man to skip a song from the setlist, apologise to the crowd and bow out with another spirited vocal/musical display. My post-gig recommendation to the uninitiated? If you haven’t seen Hunz yet, by all means do it – you’ll be blown away.

David Guetta reclaims top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart, Muse makes chart-topping debut on the ARIA Album Chart

“Sexy Bitch” from David Guetta (featuring Akon) reclaims number one on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, chalking up an impressive four weeks at the top and pushing Guy Sebastian‘s “Like It Like That” into second position. It’s the third song to return to the top of the singles chart this year, following Flo Rida‘s “Right Round” and Taylor Swift‘s “Love Story” which swapped positions several times in March/April. Muse makes a smashing entrance into the ARIA Album Chart, scoring a No.1 debut and their second chart-topping album with “The Resistance”. Their first was “Black Holes And Revelations”, which spent a week at the top in July 2006.

News: MONO (JAP) @ The Hi-Fi, Brisbane 6 December 2009

Just in time for their 10-year anniversary, MONO return with their fifth studio album, the absolutely massive Hymn To The Immortal Wind.

After touring almost non-stop for five years, the band hibernated for over a year to focus solely on writing Hymn. The result is their most thoughtful and eclectic album to date. Written and arranged with a hopeful, romantic narrative in mind, the songs string together like chapters in an epic love story. The music is naturally majestic, with MONO’s trademark wall of noise crashing beautifully against the largest chamber orchestra the band has ever enlisted. The instrumentation is vast, incorporating strings, flutes, organ, piano, glockenspiel and tympani into their standard face-melting set-up. Opeth – Australian tour – November 2009

Opeth   In a metal world starved for integrity, intelligence and beauty, Opeth shine like a beacon through dark clouds. They are artistic visionaries and their transcendent live shows have gone down in music folklore.

Combining towering blasts of blackened death metal with the intricacy of 1970s prog rock and the more subtle, gentle beauty of folk, Opeth continue to create epic and iconic music; inventing and reinventing the rules as they go along.

No wonder the metal world stops whatever it’s doing and pauses with bated breath each time the band announce an album or tour. In just over a decade and across nine studio albums, they have become the standard bearer for modern metal.

TIM FINNEddie Rayner To Join Tim Finn On Tour

In what will make for an electrifying performance, another dimension has been added to the recently announced Tim Finn National Anthology Tour with the news that former Split Enz and Crowded House keyboardist/composer/musician Eddie Rayner will join Tim on tour.

The unspoken onstage chemistry with Eddie Rayner will bring another element to the already red hot band.
