Sampology’s Super Visual Monster Mash – April/May 2011 [Tour News]

Sampology mixes YouTube clips, exerts from films, TV shows and vintage VHS finds, turning your ordinary club night into a crazy AVDJ mashup.

The technical aspect to Sampology’s Super Visual AVDJ shows is pretty darned impressive. He’s madly manipulating video via two turntables and a mixer and triggering animations from his drum machine, all projected live onto a big-ass widescreen. But it’s Sampology’s cheeky sense of humour, sprinkled across the exerts from film and TV shows, filmclips, YouTube clips and vintage VHS finds that takes your ordinary club night and turns it into a stupidly exciting and crazy fun visual mashup.

Its like dancing your butt off at your favourite movie of all time, and laughing the whole way through.

CARO EMERALD debut single ‘BACK IT UP’ [Video]

Check out the ‘BACK IT UP’ video clip below!

“New Orleans… 1951… a bar full of genius players – double dealing, sweet talking players with more on their mind than numbers – converge where the hustlers lay on the sugar thicker than the cheap wine that flows in the back rooms of the gambling halls. Eyes shift to the white girl who is obviously lost, or from out of town. And as soon as the timpani plays and she grabs the microphone, her voice moves from pariah to Princess of the Pleasure Dome. A coincidence? No, not really…”

‘Back It Up’ is the sound of swapped glances across a crowded dancefloor. It’s the sound of a party that begins late and carries on until the sun rises. It’s a song about dancing, flirting and a declaration of independence. With her debut single, Caro Emerald announces herself with the sort of sassy, whipsmart pop that will have the likes of Lily Allen and Mark Ronson pricking up their ears. Her smouldering vocals update the classic Americano sound with a contemporary sheen and suggestive lyrics over a melting pot of sounds and influences – yet the sound is entirely, inimitably that of an exciting new artist.

Brisbane Bands pt 1 (1988 music documentary)

Here’s an interesting 1988 documentary titled ‘Brisbane Bands’ we found on youTube.

This documentary focuses on the isolation and struggle many Brisbane punk bands had to endure in the face of conservative Brisbane during the 1970’s.

Mark Callaghan (GANGgajang/The Riptides), Ed Kuepper (The Saints), Robert Forster (The Go-Betweens) and Ed Wreckage (The Leftovers) speak about growing up in Brisbane during the 1970’s and forming bands.

Ed Kuepper reflects on the Saints’ classic single ‘(I’m) Stranded’ and the single’s promo-video.

Paul Kelly

From very early on in his career, Paul Kelly has been recognised as one of the most significant singer/songwriters in the country.

His influence over Australian music and Australian culture is wide and significant – backed up by the fact his new compilation Songs From The South – Volume 2 has gone Gold since its November 2008 release.

As well as issuing an enduring body of work with his own bands, Kelly has written film scores (Lantana and the Cannes 2006 highlight, Jindabyne), and produced albums for and written songs with some of Australia and New Zealand’s finest artists.

Paul Kelly’s Songs From The South Volume 2 was recently released, along with a DVD collection of Paul Kelly videos from 1985 to 2008 and a double CD including Songs From The South Volume’s 1 & 2. You can find these at record stores and digital outlets now.

Since it’s release the positive reviews have been coming through thick and fast.
One such review can be read below, from Noel Mengel of The Courier Mail. More reviews are posted in the ‘Recent Press’ section on Paul Kelly‘s website.
