The Dandy Warhols Announce ‘Distortland’ Australian Tour -October 2016

dw1

In 1994 a groovy little band outta Portland, Oregon burst into life – they were called THE DANDY WARHOLS. There were a group of friends who ’needed music to drink to’. For the last two decades, THE DANDY WARHOLS have solidified themselves as a veteran rock act that combine a detached garage rock cool with effervescent pop melodies, creating a sound that has been described as Portland’s answer to Brit-Pop.

L7 Australian Tour – October 2016 **Melbourne Sold Out! Extra Show Added!**

l7_
*** TOUR UPDATE ***
The mighty L7 take on Australia this October, thanks to www.metropolistouring.com and the Melbourne show has SOLD OUT! We are happy to announce the 2nd and Final show has been added –
170 Russell on Wednesday 12th October and it is on sale now.

*** ***

One of the most anticipated acts that were announced for Soundwave 2016, Venues across Australia are NOW about to get the roof blown off when L7 take to the stage for an ass-kicking live experience this October presented by Metropolis and Select Touring. It’s been a long hiatus, but the female punk heroes are FINALLY BACK, giving Australians a down and dirty intimate club tour.

Having dominated the music scene throughout the 90’s and spearheading a ferocious underground musical movement whilst defying gender expectations for the greater good of kick-ass alternative grungy punk rock, the iconic queens of rock ‘n’ roll L7 are exactly that, and so much more. From 1988 – 1999 they were responsible for some classic rock moments – Shitlist, Pretend We’re Dead, Everglade, Slide, Andres, Fuel My Fire (originally done by our own Cosmic Psychos), Wargasm, Shove, Fast and Frightening to name a few Rolling Stone also featured the band’s Butch Vig produced “Bricks Are Heavy” album in their list of Essential Recordings of the 1990’s.

Being cited as a mammoth influence on many of the Riot Grrrl bands of the same decade, L7 are back to prove what all the fuss is about for the greater good of society. Since re-uniting in 2014, the punk heroes have been tearing stages to shreds ever since, demonstrating exactly why their live performances are as iconic as we say they are and showing the world once again why L7 was one of Kurt Cobain’s favourite bands. Billboard describes their live show as “one of the hardest, rawest rock bands I’ve seen on stage in years”.

Here’s what recent gig reviews have been saying about the punk goddesses.

“Thanks for taking an extended hiatus to remind us all what we’ve been missing.” (Seattle Passive Aggressive)

“Seeing L7 reunited onstage wasn’t a nostalgic pleasure – it felt more like a privilege.“ (Billboard)

“Like a boxer whose single punch is a haymaker. You know it’s coming but it knocks you out every time.” (Chicago Tribune)

It’s going to be sweaty, it’s going to be un-apologetically L7 – oozing the grit and grime from the streets of Los Angeles in a viciously pissed off display of raw energy; but really, would you want it any other way? Prepare your grins now as they play all their Classics, after you see this band you won’t be able to take it off your face for a long time to come!

TOTALLY 80’s AUSTRALIAN TOUR ANNOUNCED! (Martika, Berlin, Limahl and more!)

image007(1)

Get ready for the Best 80s Night Ever! TOTALLY 80’s!

TOTALLY 80’s Stars 7 International 80’s Superstars – MARTIKA, BERLIN, LIMAHL of KAJAGOOGOO, PAUL LEKAKIS, KATRINA (ex KATRINA & THE WAVES), MEN WITHOUT HATS & STACEY Q will be together – live in concert – to perform all of their classic hits. Sharing the stage with them will be 2 of Australia’s own Countdown Favourites WA WA NEE and REAL LIFE!

Whether it was her synth-dance songs or power ballads, there’s no doubting MARTIKA (USA) was a great singer. At TOTALLY 80s she will perform all of her biggest Australian hits including the #1 smash Love… Thy Will Be Done (written by Prince no less), the almost #1 Toy Soldiers as well as I Feel The Earth Move and Martika’s Kitchen. This will be only the second time MARTIKA has toured Australia, the last time being 1991!

Let by Terri Nunn, synth-pop/ new wavers BERLIN (USA) will take you back in time to that steamy scene from Top Gun when they perform their Australian #1 Take My Breath Away (writer Giorgio Moroder said that he is most proud of this song, of all the other hits he has had) plus their other fantastic Top 40 Hits, including No More Words, Dancing in Berlin as well as the seminal, Metro (which has been covered by everyone from System of a Down to Alkaline Trio). This will be BERLIN’s first tour of Australia since 1984!

The original duotone spikey mullet man, LIMAHL (UK) was, oh, so much more than his legendary hair; the band he fronted KAJAGOOGOO were responsible for the 1980’s Nick Rhodes (DURAN DURAN) produced classic Too Shy (which peaked at #6 on the Australian charts.) LIMAHL immediately found solo success with his smash hit Never Ending Story giving him another Top 10 hit here. This will be the first time LIMAHL of KAJAGOOGOO has ever toured Australia!

PAUL LEKAKIS (USA), the man who like a fine wine only gets better with age, had one of the biggest hits in 1987 with Boom Boom (Lets Go Back To My Room). This 80’s dance-pop gem was an Australian phenomenon and stayed at #1 for 5 weeks! This will be the first time Paul has ever performed in Australia!

KATRINA (UK) ex KATRINA & THE WAVES had one of the biggest 80’s hits with their power pop classic Walking on Sunshine reaching #4 here, it’s second highest chart position in the world only behind Canada. KATRINA was last here in 1987 as part of the Countdown Spectacular.

One of the most memorable videos from the 80’s was for Canada’s MEN WITHOUT HATS for their mega hit Safety Dance. It has stood the test of time and remains one of the quintessential 80’s songs that always makes you smile! This will be the first time MEN WITHOUT HATS have ever performed live in Australia!

The Queen of retro / electro dance, STACEY Q (USA) stormed the Australian charts in 1986 with her debut single Two of Hearts reaching #8. Her follow up single We Connect was another great slice of hi-nrg dance music and reached #6 here. “Long live the 80’s and Stacey Q” indeed!

WA WA NEE came of nowhere in 1986 and scored an Aussie #1 with their debut single Stimulation. They followed it up with 2 more Top 10 Australian Hits – Sugar Free and I Could Make You Love Me.

Of all the 80’s Australian acts very few charted outside of Australia. REAL LIFE were the exception with their synth pop classic Send Me An Angel reaching #6 in Australia as well as #1 in NZ, #1 in Germany, #18 Canada, #29 in the US to name a few! REAL LIFE will perform Send Me An Angel as well as their other Australian Top 10 hit, Catch Me I’m Falling.

What a line-up! What a night! So many 80s classic songs all performed live by the original artists! TOTALLY 80’s will be a night to re-live some of the decade’s biggest smash hits, (safety) dance moves and musical memories.

WEEDEATER (USA) & CONAN (UK) Australia/New Zealand July 2016 **Supports Announced**

weed
*** SUPPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT ***

It is with great pleasure that LIFE IS NOISE can announce the hand-picked local supports for the upcoming Weedeater and Conan tour through New Zealand and Australia this July.

In Wellington on July 12 at the San Fran the main support will be the post-traumatic sludgescapists Opium Eater, and opening up the evening will be the nihilistic drone and doom of Ritual Abuse.

The tranced-out atmosphere and aggression of Shallow Grave will be on prior to the headline acts in Auckland on July 13 at Kings Arms. Getting things underway on the night will be those local legends of self loathing Bridge Burner.

Brisbane’s Crowbar is in for a real treat on July 14 (oooh la la) as the sunshine state’s premier sludge lords Lizzard Wizzard grace the main support slot. On first will be loud noise rock/metal outfit Grieg – determined to burst your eardrums before you get a beer.

On July 15 at Manning Bar, Weedeater and Conan will have some super heavy support with LIFE IS NOISE favourites Lo! and Thorax getting things started with the appropriate amount of grunt and fire.

At Max Watt’s Melbourne on July 16, the band with the best name in the city, Weedy Gonzalez, will get things rolling. And in the main support slot will be Merchant, fresh from unleashing their new menacing monster sludgefest, Suzerain.

We will wrap up the Weedeater and Conan tour at The Rosemount Hotel on July 17. Perth heavy-stoner trio Skullcave slot into the second support slot on the evening and starting things up will be local crust/metal sewer-group Territory.

Catch Weedeater and Conan on the following dates:

Wellington – San Fran – July 12
Auckland – Kings Arms – July 13
Brisbane – Crowbar – July 14
Sydney – Manning Bar – July 15
Melbourne – Max Watt’s – July 16
Perth – Rosemount Hotel – July 17

Tickets from lifeisnoise.com, oztix, the venues and undertheradar.co.nz for Auckland and Wellington.
**** End Update ***

For the first time ever, LIFE IS NOISE is proud to be bringing North Carolina’s favourite cough syrup swilling, hot sauce snorting weirdos, Weedeater to venues across Oz and NZ. Fronted by legendary bassist/vocalist “Dixie” Dave Collins, Weedeater are a dirty stoner force only to be fully appreciated up close and live with a show full of noise, sweat, spit, and fire. Weedeater will give you a contact high from merely listening.

There’s no band filthier than Weedeater. – Consequence of Sound

Over a two decade career Weedeater have put out some of the most devastating crust fuelled doom records – from the legendary Sixteen Tons to God Luck and Good Speed and now the latest THC-soaked genius, Goliathan.

While the Albini-engineered Goliathan is perhaps the best attempt to capture the rawness of a Weedeater show, there’s really no substitute for the real thing. Live Weedeater is a frenzied, chaotic maelstrom of Southern sludge and raspy yet somehow still viscous vocals. Prepare for a total body experience.

Anyone who has experienced the sonic rumblings and onstage antics of the almighty Weedeater live knows that it is always, without fail, a deliriously good time. – MetalSucks

CONAN
Conan are punishingly loud, mercilessly heavy and just downright menacing.

Forming in 2006, the Liverpudlian trio’s latest release, Revengeance, is their third album of “caveman battle doom” – where ferociously hammered drums and sludge-filled guitar and bass meet torturously howled vocals to create music that sounds like a herd of war elephants marching over the bones of a vanquished army.

Conan are an important band and Revengeance is their strongest material to date; an album to be enjoyed drenched in the blood of your enemies whilst wondering if the tinnitus is permanent. – The Monolith

On stage, Conan are simply a behemoth of a band playing in front of a wall of amplifiers pushed to their limit. Pummelingly intense, you don’t just see a Conan show, you try to survive it!

Catch Weedeater and Conan on the following dates:

Wellington – San Fran – July 12
Auckland – Kings Arms – July 13
Brisbane – Crowbar – July 14
Sydney – Manning Bar – July 15
Melbourne – Max Watt’s – July 16
Perth – Rosemount Hotel – July 17

Tickets from lifeisnoise.com, oztix, the venues and undertheradar.co.nz for Auckland and Wellington.
